Culinary Arts Teacher

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge and skills in CA programs

  • Ability to align Culinary Arts curriculum and instruction to industry certification exams

  • Knowledge of State Performance Based Monitoring Analysis System (PBMAS) and ability to analyze and document data for improved student performance.

  • Knowledge of project-based learning programs

  • Ability to market CA program to students, staff, parents and business community

  • Ability to plan banquet menus, prepare and provide catering for campus, district and community events

  • Strong organizational, marketing, communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to adjust and adapt to a multitude of situations in the school environment

Major Responsibilities and Duties: (The following statements describe the general purpose and responsibilities assigned and should not be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, skills, efforts, or working conditions that may be assigned or skills that may be required.)

Instructional Planning and Delivery

1.Analyze performance data to provide targeted instruction based on students' individual needs.

2.Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district's curriculum program, reflect accommodations for learning style differences, and show written evidence of preparation as required.

3.Present content according to the guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.

4.Collaborate with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives and methods according to district requirements.

5.Work with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students as identified in Individual Education Plans (IEP).

6.Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.

7.Plan with ESL teachers to support ELL students with mastery of content knowledge.

8.Administer industry certification exam(s) aligned to content knowledge. Provide instruction throughout the year to support 90% or above passing rates among Level I and Level II coherent sequence completers.

9.Administer safety exams prior to allowing students to work with equipment/resources in the commercial kitchen.



  1. Identify a local hotel partner and schedule on site internships 2-3 days per week throughout the year for students enrolled in Level I and II courses.

  2. Facilitate planning and implementation of banquet and catering events through culinary curriculum.

  3. Collaborate with local public and private culinary institutes of higher education. Monitoring Student Progress and Potential

  4. Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.

  5. Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.

  6. Support mission of school district by serving as a positive role model for students.

  7. Prepare students for the rigor of dual credit culinary courses. Classroom Management and Organization

  8. Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.

  9. Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and Student Handbook.

  10. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities. Qualities of Effective Teachers

  11. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly to students, parents, and staff.

  12. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents and community members.

  13. Participate in staff development activities that improve job-related skills and professional growth.

  14. Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and campus policies for classroom teachers, including daily attendance, punctuality and confidentiality. 24. Compile, maintain and file all reports, records and other required documents.

  15. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

  16. Comply with the Texas Educator's Code of Ethics. Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise students in classroom and monitor work flow of student assistants as appropriate.
