This internship opportunity is for Forsyth County high school-level students enrolled in the CTAE Work Program for the 2024-2025 school year.

The purpose of this position is to provide a unique educational experience for Forsyth County High School students. This is an unpaid internship.

Intern Job Responsibilities:

  • Learn the overall concept of the organization, including the brand, goals, and all other aspects of service.

  • Engage with customers/citizens and provide service when necessary and as appropriate.

  • Provide suggestions to management for improving customer service and internal processes.

  • Learn and become proficient in systems if applicable.

Job-Specific Responsibilities and Skills:

  • Experience with MS Office- such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Experience in browser based mapping applications such as Google Earth or similar

Possible Project Responsibilities:

Asset Management:

  • Work closely with and assist the Water Asset Management team in preparing the inventory, compiling information from multiple county data sources into the templates and formats required for submittal to EPD.

  • Work with AM staff to map the data fields from these sources into the EPD-developed Excel templates for submittal.

  • Update

Land Development:

  • Work closely with and assist the Department engineer review Land Disturbance Permits, Minor Plats, Final Plats, As-Built Drawings, and Building Permits.

  • Assist in developing review checklists, standard operating procedures, as well as research for new technologies in water and sewer that could be incorporated into the FCDWS design and construction standards.

  • Assist in compiling metrics for monthly reports.

Water Loss Audit:

  • Work closely with and assist the Department engineer prepare the audit by quantifying water that is lost in the system.

  • Develop goals and procedures geared towards minimizing water loss.

  • Assist the engineer to compile necessary data from various operational sources.

  • Participate in desktop and/or pilot studies to evaluate leak detection technologies and help evaluate their effectiveness in minimizing leaks in the system.

  • Conduct research to identify emerging technologies in the market to help document best practices implemented by other utilities towards water loss minimization.
