  • Specialty Radiographers work under the direct supervision of the Lead Specialty Radiographer, Administrative Personnel and Radiologist. Specialty Radiographers are to be able to perform all routine examinations as necessary in the daily operational objectives of the Medical Imaging Department of Wellmont Health System as set forth by hospital guidelines and policies, the radiology medical staff and radiology administrative personnel as they relate to their area of specialty. These may include but not limited to MRI, C.T., Angiography, Ultrasound/Vascular, Nuclear Medicine and Mammography.

Successful completion of an AMA approved School of Radiologic Technology and /or Valid and/or updated registry/certification by the American registry of Radiologic Technologists (A.R.R.T.).

Certification in CT modality preferred or employee obtaining CT certification within 12 months of transferring to CT Technologist position.

A.R.R.T License Required; CT Certification preferred or employee prepared to obtain CT certification within 12 months of transferring to CT Technologist position.

CPR is required for any RN, LPN, PCT, Patient Transporter or other direct patient care provider. Emergency Department, Intensive Care Units, PACU, Medical Emergency Team and Anesthesia require ACLS. Pediatrics, SICU, Emergency Department and Medical Emergency Team also require PALS

SCOPE OF POSITION The CT Tech performs a variety of duties in preparing patients for CT imaging studies on patients from neonates to geriatrics. Operates CT scanner and computer to produce images of specific areas to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Deals directly with Radiologist with regard to CT scan protocol and scan sequence. Gives patient instruction of procedure method. Injects IV contrast for organ enhancement, under the direction of Radiologist. MSHA expects all team members to support the VOS initiative by demonstrating awareness of the VOS system and effectively applying it to his/her work. Job duties of this position may require access to protected patient information (PHI). The team member will be accountable for appropriate use of the record and compliance with all confidentiality and security policy and procedures related to use, access, and disclosure of PHI. REPORTING RELATIONSHIP This position at Indian Path Medical Center reports to the Technical Imaging Manager. This position Supervises students. (Clinical) The Washington County facilities report to the Lead Technologist. This position at Sycamore Shoals reports to the Radiology Manager. EDUCATION EXPERIENCE Minimal acceptable Registered Radiologic Technologist (ARRT). CT technologist will be taught on the job, if promoted from within. If hired from outside the hospital, candidates must have a minimum of one year experience in CT scan applications. Generally personnel promoted from within will have two years experience as an ARRT. Candidate must possess willingness and aptitude to process computer-assisted images and learn cross sectional anatomy.
