Job Summary:

Read and interpret requests and instructions of physicians concerning CT examination technique. Determine body regions and projections which are to be undertaken, greets patients, explains procedures to patients and seeks to reassure anxious and distressed patients; guides and positions patients before and during examinations in order to obtain the required views.

Operate CT equipment by setting controls and making required adjustments using guidelines and standard procedures as directed by physicians in order to procure the required images. Receive general technical supervision from Senior Technologist including orientation to the facility and equipment, advice on procedures and spot-checks of overall performance to determine effectiveness.

Minimum Qualifications:

AAS in Radiologic Technology or equivalent, NYS license/registration or eligible and ARRT (or must obtain w/in one year of appointment), current CPR certification, and registration certification for Contrast Injection (or must obtain w/in 3 months of appointment) and one year experience as a radiologic technologist required.

HOACNY provides cancer care services, Monday through Friday, at three convenient locations in East Syracuse, Syracuse and Auburn with CT at our East Syracuse and Syracuse locations. JOB TITLE: CT Technologist POSITION STATUS: Exempt SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports directly to Chief of Radiation/Imaging Services SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination for operation and repair of all department equipment. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires eye sight correctable to 20/20 to operate equipment and review developed film. Prolonged sitting and computer usage. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Prepare CT suite for each patient, including loading contrast injector and reviewing pre-CT lab results and CT orders. Prepare and instruct patient on procedure for oral and IV contrast according to protocol. Review patient questionnaire and obtain signed consent for IV contrast exams. Place IV line for IV contrast administration. Review patients medical history, symptoms, and relevant prior imaging exams before scanning. Perform CT examinations on Siemens Definition AS Open scanner according to protocols provided by reading Radiologists (CRA). Perform post-processing of images as required by protocols or Radiologist/Oncologist request. Review CT images and transmit to Radiologists upon completion of scan. Work with Radiation Therapy Technologists and Radiation Oncologists on RT planning/simulations. Perform daily and monthly QA procedures for CT scanner, as well as daily warm-up/calibration, and keep records in compliance with ACR and NYS regulations. Maintain CT policy/procedure manuals. Burn CDs of patient exams from scanner or PACS as needed. Stock supplies in CT suite. Review CT orders and labs (GFR) for next days scans and enter medical/oncologic history with reason for scan in radiology information system (IDX). Maintains patient confidentiality. Performs related work as required. Reviews scan images with MD as requested. Maintains policy & procedure manual according to NSYDOH regulations. PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of anatomy and physiology to sufficiently pinpoint area of interest. Knowledge of scan protocols used to best visualize patient anatomy. Knowledge of CT and RT equipment operation, maintenance and testing. Knowledge of safety hazards common to work area including equipment, body mechanics and patient movement. Skill in training student technologists and co-workers in equipment operation and procedures. Skill in trouble shooting equipment operation and performing simple adjustments. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public. Ability to apply written guidelines and standardized work practices. Ability to identify problems. Ability to communicate clearly. Continuing Education: Stays current with ARRT and NYSDOH requirements for CE credits and licensure.
