Duties/Responsibilities:
Prepares room, equipment, medicine and materials as needed for patients
Prepares barium preparation and other chemical mixtures for CT Exam
Prepares patient for CT exam, explains procedures, transfer patient to table, positions patient and assists patient at end of procedures
Follows prescribed techniques in administration general and specific CT exam (adjust equipment; determines proper voltage, current, and desired exposure time; arranges immobilization and support devices to obtain position of patient; adjusts lead shield; and selects proper film)
Observes patient and machine during procedure and reports unusual occurrences and records patient's condition
Maintains stock supplies and performs general office duties; writes reports
Responds immediately to all over-head emergency Stroke Protocol announcements, and informs radiologist that the stroke protocol process is in effect
Performs venipuncture when necessary
Transfers CT images via internet VPN to the nigh radiologist (V-RAD)
Performs post processing of CTA study images when requested
Works towards obtaining a formal CT certification designation
Regarding CT Exposure: Works with the "Image Wisely and Image Gently" programs
Gives oral and IV contrast media to CT patients in the volume and velocity expected for each exam
Updates the CT imaging protocols with the help of GE applications specialist
Initials and dates all IV contrast solution that is used in the CT Suite
Assists radiologist with all CT biopsy exams
Provides radiologist with all CT biopsy exams and proper history on each patient
Transports patients
Required Skills/Abilities:
Knowledgeable in cross sectional anatomy as well as gross anatomy
Knowledge of computers and electronic medical record software; type 45 WPM
Knowledge of medical and safety equipment as it relates to patient care
Knowledge of computer equipment needed to assigned duties
Physical Requirements:
Occasionally sitting and climbing steps
Standing and walking frequently
Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds at times.
