Responsibilities

Responsibilities:* Utilizes clinical reasoning which includes global grasp of situations, critical thinking, decision making, critical actions, priority setting, and escalation of concerns with associated knowledge, skills, and evidence-based guidelines in managing computerized tomographic radiograph imaging.

  • Works on behalf of the patients/significant others in representing their concerns and helping resolve ethical and clinical issues that impact the patients situation. Uses effective communication to escalate concerns to appropriate one up leader. Goes extra mile to attend to patient exam requests.

  • Creates a compassionate, supportive and therapeutic environment for patients and staff with the aim of promoting comfort and healing and preventing unnecessary suffering or harm. Recognizes patient concern and reacts appropriately, including documentation of events.

*Educates patient prior to scanning procedure explaining the procedure and answering patient questions.

  • Involves multidisciplinary team as well as patient/significant others to promote optimal and realistic goals and outcomes. Works with other departments to create an effective patient exam flow to include avoiding conflicting procedures and delay of patient care as well as effective utilization of limited technical and clinical resources.

*Effectively manages environmental and system resources across the healthcare system and community to meet patient/significant others needs and ensure quality care and outcomes. Assesses clinical area to uncover and report safety issues with regards to physical space, expired supplies, and or damaged equipment

  • Uses holistic body, mind, spirit approach in provision of care by recognizing, appreciating, and incorporating cultural, spiritual, gender, race, ethnicity, lifestyle, socioeconomic, age, and values differences in practice.

  • Fosters patient/significant others learning to promote self-care using both formal and informal processes as applicable and at an appropriate level of understanding, and contributes to the orientation and professional growth of colleagues. Properly conducts pre/post procedure screening, supports student educational programs, invests quality time onboarding new employees, takes initiative to stay current on technology protocols and advances. Is aware of location of protocol manuals and reviews them to stay current in protocol changes.

  • Uses high standards and evidence-based practices along with questioning, research and evaluation skills to provide informed and/or change practice. Properly assesses patient condition for candidate for imaging.

    Performs necessary clinical and technical safety checks and screening processes, validates reasons for exam with patient prior to scanning, addresses all safety concerns prior to scanning, and performs red rules to ensure right patient/right exam/right order. Understands importance of performing necessary safety/calibration/quality checks per established protocols. Does not image patient without an order or without performing necessary safety, lab, and conflicting exam reviews.

Assist in other areas of department as needed, provide quality control, serve as clinical liaison for inpatients explaining processes and educating families. Perform equipment operation, troubleshooting and appropriate care. Evaluate and assist in safety training for hospital staff, apply principles of radiation protection. The delivery of quality service and positive interaction with customers is critical to the completion of all tasks. Serve as a role model to promote the SRMC Values, a positive work environment and efficient, quality patient care. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups.</p><p>Essential Functions:</p><ul><li><p>POLICIES AND PROCEDURES - Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality assurance programs</p></li><li><p>PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops.</p></li><li><p>Perform CTs and x-ray evaluations as per protocol and by medical provider orders</p></li><li><p>Perform diagnostic radiographic procedures to include portables, OR, operate imaging equipment, computer and other assistive devices</p></li><li><p>Follow Radiology Department protocols and perform CT/x-ray evaluations per medical provider orders</p></li><li><p>Prepare digital images for viewing by Radiologist or medical provider</p></li><li><p>Determine appropriate methodology and techniques to use in administering procedures; calibrate and adjust equipment as appropriate; arranges immobilization and/or support devices for proper patient positioning; adjust shields</p></li><li><p>Evaluate imaging for technical qualities and remedies, provide corrective action to improve quality</p></li><li><p>Observe patient and equipment during procedures, document patient reactions or problems on requisition and report immediately to supervisor</p></li><li><p>Complete and verify all appropriate paperwork involved in but not limited to exams, patient education, lab results, and patient checklists</p></li><li><p>Prepare patient for CT/radiographic procedures as appropriate to requirements; evaluate patients condition; assume care for the patients physical needs; explain procedures to patients and position patients as appropriate to prescribed procedure; assist patients at end of procedure</p></li><li><p>Maintain a clean environment;
