Under the direction and supervision of a radiologist/physician performs all procedures within the CT section of the Department of Radiology. Also performs general radiographic examinations as required. Observes all radiation safety guidelines and performs any other duties which assist in the provision of quality patient care according to the mission and values of the health center.

Essential Functions

  • Performs CT imaging examinations, intravenous contrast injections in accordance with hospital guidelines and ensures safety to the patient, public, and self. Prepares equipment and scanning area for patient procedures. Transport or escort patients to and from CT area. Keeps areas stocked at all times and room clean. Technologist cleans equipment per departmental policy after each patient use.

  • Performs all clerical duties needed to assist in the patient care process and demonstrates proper documentation of all patient care.

  • Operates and maintains equipment used and records all maintenance in log books, performs quality control testing as required by department quality assurance plan/coordinator

  • Ensures radiation safety to the patient, public, and self in conjunction with ODH and JC requirements. Educates patients and/or family member to procedure and any other educational requirements.

  • Maintains competencies of a Radiologic/CT Technologist as required by department, state and federal guidelines.

  • Adheres to work schedule, and schedules PTO time off per departmental policy. Will be available for rotating emergency call, while also possibly being asked to cover at other facilities within the Mercy Health Youngstown market.Attends departmental staff meetings and in-services as required. Adheres to all - established CareTIME / HR policies.

  • Cooperates with all personnel in the proper conduct of the department. Maintains ethical relationships. May be requested to assist in the development of techniques for procedures. May assist in the use of a variety of equipment and procedures not routinely employed. Assist others in the department, requests assistance when necessary and demonstrates a team approach to patient care. Assist in developing the skills of students, trainees, or residents.

Minimum Education

Required Minimum Education: Vocational/Technical Degree

Preferred Education: 2 year Associates Degree

Licensure/Certifications

Required: ARRT (R), current BLS Certification, Ohio Department of Health License for Radiologic

Preferred: ARRT (R)(CT) Registered, ACLS preferred,

Minimum Qualifications

Experience: 1 year of CT , 2 years of Radiology

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Broad Range of Technical Skills. Detailed level of knowledge of a Radiology/CT modality

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred: Gathers, organizes, verifies, and analyzes data in the completion of multi-step procedures. Procedures final output within established standards operates complicated equipment.

Must use various ultrasound modalities dependent on the type of anatomy being examined. Must become proficient in recognizing cross-sectional anatomy and understanding of related technology. Demonstrates favorable guest relations and continues to promote values of the hospital in daily work performance. May also perform other related patient care duties. May perform clerical and technical related duties as it pertains to retrieving previous exams. Positions the transducer probe per protocols of anatomy. Manipulates equipment controls to obtain maximum resolution of ultrasound frequency per protocols and during procedures. Obtains scan in various required angles and positions. Records scans on hard copy cd if need be and presents to the radiologist for approval when applicable. Practices sterile techniques and prevents cross-contamination. Checks equipment, accessories, and supplies. Keeps areas stocked at all times and room clean. Technologist cleans equipment per departmental policy and after each patient use.
