Essential functions

Include the following; this position provides responsible supervision to assigned probationers to ensure compliance with court ordered conditions thereby providing a service to the courts of Nueces County, the community and the offenders. Supervise, screen and evaluate probationers placed on community supervision to monitor compliance with court orders.

Conduct criminal history reports on offenders placed on Community Supervision in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures. Employee must maintain accurate and detailed documentation and chronological record of referrals, assessments/reassessments, probation violations and all other offender activity on a regular basis, as required by the PPM. Process and complete required documentation to include screening, assessment, case plan, presentence reports, pretrial intake and discharge data forms.

Process and complete documents such as terminations, motions to revoke, bond forfeitures, compliance/ non-compliance forms, satisfactory completion forms and other required documents. Notify court immediately of any violations of probation, according to court policy. Ensure that all fees are addressed on a timely basis as per court order.

Ensure that all court ordered fees are correctly receipted and documented in case file. All court ordered fees as assessed must be completely determined and reflected in the Conditions of Community Supervision. Conduct monthly caseload counts and prepare monthly statistical reports which are due on the last day of each month, to ensure that all cases are accounted for and are in compliance with CJAD standards.

Refer probationers to appropriate resource agencies as directed by the court. Collect and observe urinalysis with accurate and timely documentation.Make face to face and collateral contacts as required, as well as conduct random field visits in an effort to demonstrate due diligence. This position will infrequently be required to work weekends and evenings as directed by a supervisor.

Assist the courts in revocation hearings as necessary and provide court testimony as required. Provide assistance to other CSCD units. Contribute to a positive workplace atmosphere by performing in a professional manner with subordinates, coworkers and supervisors. Maintain accurate personal time keeping records.

Education

This CSCD officer must, at a minimum, meet the criteria as outlined in the Texas Government Code, §76.005. To be eligible for appointment as an officer a person:

Must have acquired a bachelor's degree conferred by an institution of higher education accredited by an accrediting organization recognized by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board; and Unless the bachelor's degree is in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Corrections, Counseling, Human Services Development, Law, Law Enforcement, Police Science, Pre-Law, Public Administration, Rehabilitative Studies, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, the person must have: One year of graduate study in one of those fields; or one year of experience in full-time casework, counseling, or community or group work. Official transcripts are required at time of interview.

Exclusions

Cannot be employed as a peace officer or work as a reserve or volunteer peace officer; and cannot be currently on community supervision or parole or serving a sentence or a criminal offense.

Certifications And Licenses RequiredMust be certified by the state (CJAD) as a community supervision officer within one year of employment; Must possess and maintain personal reliable transportation, valid Texas driver's license and appropriate liability insurance.

KNOWLEDGE And EXPIERENCE

Good sound knowledge of the criminal justice system, modern principles of criminology, psychological concepts of good behavior, social adjustment and emotional stability, social case work techniques, legal statutes and regulations and how they all relate to community supervision. Successful applicant must demonstrate some knowledge of automated systems, procedures and applications.

SKILLS

Must possess the necessary skills needed to: Analyze and interpret policies and procedures, operational plans and activities; communicate both orally and in writing clearly, effectively and professionally; Control numerous projects simultaneously; Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, officials, defendants, other agencies and the general public; Gather, analyze and evaluate facts, and develop individual case planning and disposition;Function with minimum supervision and direction.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee frequently is required effectively communicate in various formats.

The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually low and occasionally moderate to moderately high. To ensure safety, office work space must be arranged in such a way that the CSCD Officer is closest to the door and the first to exit the office space.
