Position Summary:

  • The Civil Designer is responsible for supporting the Civil Structural Architectural (CSA) design team during all various phases of projects from design to start-up. Work is typically performed in the office and field.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create and review concrete structural foundation designs including but not limited to rebar size and concrete psi requirements

  • Ensure proficient steel requirements for equipment installations, including reading and understanding OEM drawings

  • Ensure applicable engineering codes and standards as well as company policies and procedures are met and followed

  • Create and review steel design drawings

  • Design stair systems per applicable codes, or have the ability to

  • Design personnel access platforms

  • Design sumps and trenches

  • Generate bulk materials take offs

  • Learn and gain an understanding of member sizing for pipe supports, working closely with CSA and Mechanical Engineers

  • Perform system walk downs to identify deficiencies and ensure compliance to design and customer requirements

  • Ensure construction practices as required are compliant with federal, state, local, and plant codes/policies

  • Analyze field data in an operating chemical manufacturing facility

  • Set a good example obeying all rules and regulations to achieve 100% universal compliance with HS&E (Health, Safety, & Environmental) procedures and regulations

  • Participate in safety audits or surveillances

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma; Associate degree in technical field preferred

  • 2+ years of experience in AutoCAD or equivalent certification of its use

  • Basic understanding of Bill of Material (BOM), Material to Order (MTO), and how to incorporate types and quantities of detailed MTO/BOM

  • Basic understanding of industrial facilities

  • Basic awareness of safety programs and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) requirements while performing field research

Additional Qualifications:

  • Proficient understanding of concrete and steel design with applicable codes and standards

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Experience in an industrial manufacturing facility (chemical, pulp/paper, refinery, etc.)

  • 3D computer aided drafting and design experience preferred

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word/Excel)

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities

  • Ability to work independently and in a multi-functional team environment
