Under direction, to assist school children and pedestrians safely across streets in multiple locations; to report problems requiring possible police action; and to do related work as required.Requests school children to wait at curbing for safe crossing and to dismount from bicycles or remove roller skates; halts traffic by hand signal, giving due consideration to the distance required to stop and the avoidance of unnecessary traffic congestion; conducts children and pedestrians safely across the street; signals for traffic to resume; reports persons seen loitering around schools to the police department; reports license numbers of traffic violators and unsafe conditions around assigned area; drives on City business.

Employment Standards:

Knowledge of - state and local traffic laws. Ability to follow oral and written directions; win the respect and cooperation of children; good eyesight and freedom from color blindness.

Education/Training:

Any combination of training and experience equivalent to completion of the eighth grade in school.

License & Certificates:

A valid California Class "C" driver's license or equivalent at time of appointment.

Selection Process: All applicants will be reviewed and only those candidates determined to be most qualified on the basis of experience, training and education, as submitted, will be invited to participate further in the selection process. Testing may consist of the following:

VIEW JOBS 7/28/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-10-26T00:00 Definition Under general supervision, to guard and protect property, control entrance to and exit from City property; dispatch emergency crews as required; do related work as required. Essential Functions Observes and controls vehicles, property, personnel entering and leaving City property; responds to issues via the phone, computer, and in person; patrols grounds, buildings, and other installations; ensures that doors, gates, and windows are secure; inspects and controls vehicles entering City property by bending, stooping and visually examining vehicles; maintains a computerized log of visitors, vehicle "sign-out" and equipment daily usage sheets; operates video surveillance, telephone and radio systems; receives emergency calls and dispatches necessary crews to emergency situations; maintains time records for employees called in after hours; directs traffic in and out of city property; answers telephone and provides information to City staff and the public; accepts applications for new service when offices are closed; responds to the building alarm system; works outdoors; meets established performance standards, and is subjected to prolonged standing throughout the employee's shift; drives on City business. Minimum Qualifications Employment Standards: Ability to communicate clearly with the public and persons entering and exiting City property; understand and carry out written and oral directions; work rotating shifts; work with minimal or no supervision; work outdoors in all types of weather conditions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, fellow employees, and the public. Education/Training: Graduation from high school or equivalent is desirable. License & Certificates: A valid California Class "C" driver's license or equivalent at time of appointment; CPR and First Aid certification would be desirable.
