The Crisis Intervention Behavioral Health Specialist provides crisis intervention and discharge planning. Serves as a resource for the Emergency Room (ER) and Mental Health units.
Screens patient needs in crisis situations that include, but are not limited to behavioral health, child abuse, alleged sexual assault, domestic violence, and confers with Emergency Department (ED) physician's assessment. Follows established policies and procedures appropriate for the situation and makes appropriate referrals and facilitate discharge planning as directed by ED physician.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Conducts appropriate assessments and referrals of patients and families in crisis situations. Remains calm and functions effectively under pressure and stress.
Maintains communication regarding significant changes in the status of a case with the ER disciplinary staff.
Provides timely pre-notification to patients' insurance company of admission to the medical center and clarifies insurance benefits.
Communicates all pertinent clinical information to inpatient staff prior to patient admission. Completes all pertinent paperwork for inpatient admission after consulting with the physician authorizing the admission.
Documents all activities in the medical record according to departmental standards.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology or related field required. Master's Degree preferred.
Minimum one year of hospital psychiatric work or relevant fieldwork placement in the mental health field required.
Proficient in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Knowledge of Meditech, Electronic Document Management (EDM) and Electronic Medical Record (EMR) tools.
