Description:
Duties: Perform a variety of laboratory tests and related analyses to assist in crime detection; collect, analyze and compare evidence for forensic application.
Identify physiological fluids including blood and semen and determine appropriate species; type of fluids in hematological groups.
Make microscopic comparisons of variations in ballistics and toolmarks. Perform analysis of drugs, poisons, fillers and related materials. may serve as expert witness in court; testify as to findings and conclusions.
Qualifications: Basic principles and practices of criminal investigations, identification and analysis, pertinent Federal, State and local laws, code and regulations pertaining to evidence, arrest and prosecution of criminals, safe work practices and occupational hazards of the job, methods and practices of handwriting comparison, use and care for a variety of laboratory equipment.
Experience: No directly related experience required. Training: equivalent to a Bachelors degree from an accredited college of university with major course work in Chemistry, Biology or a related field.
PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT, APPLICANT RECOMMENDED FOR EMPLOYMENT SHALL BE REQUIRED TO SUCCESSFULLY PASS A URINALYSIS AND/OR BLOOD TEST TO SCREEN FOR ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUG ABUSE.

Basic principles and practices and practices of criminal investigations, identification and analysis. Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations pertaining to evidence, arrest and prosecution of criminals. Safe work practices and occupational hazards of the job.
