CRIMINALIST I

THIS POSITION IS ELIGIBLE FOR APPOINTMENT AT STEP 1, $89,731.20 ANNUALLY. County employees are subject to the County Promotion Rule for Step Placement.

About the Position:

A Criminalist I performs analysis, examination, and testing of physical evidence. The work involves preservation, analysis and interpretation of physical evidence relevant to law enforcement investigations and testimony in court as an expert witness.

Education and Experience:

Education, training, and/or experience that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above. Required education and experience:

A bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in chemistry, biology, or a closely related field.

In order for your education to be considered, you must attach a copy of your diploma, transcripts or foreign studies equivalency certificate to your application.

Condition of Employment:

As part of the County of San Diego's pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Additional types of background investigations may be conducted based on the job-related activities of the position.

Evaluation:

Qualified applicants will be placed on a nine (9)month employment list based on scores received during the evaluation of information provided on the employment application and supplemental questionnaire.
