The Criminal Justice Hiring Specialist will oversee the employment processing of applicants for all certified positions assigned to the Raleigh Regional Employment Office to include Correctional Officers, Correctional Case Managers, Correctional Food Service Officers, Probation/Parole Officers, etc.

  • Position conducts a thorough review of applicant information including but not limited to the employment application, previous employment and certification documentation, (ensuring applicant is eligible for certified position) criminal background check, military discharge documentation, etc.

  •  Position must obtain fingerprint and DCI Operator certification as well as Notary Public appointment.

  • Requires the ability to run, read, and interpret a thorough DCI background check.

  •  Position assigns and proctors pre-employment testing and contacts medical vendors as needed.

  • Consults with managers and subject matter experts on complex issues and responds to a wide variety of questions from applicants and work location managers.

  • Responsible for hiring approvals and obtaining start dates from work locations. This requires close interaction with HR staff and managers at various DAC work locations.

  •  Position conducts salary administration for entry level certified positions and maintains applicant hiring records in the Applicant Tracking System (ATS) and other internal databases.

  • Responsible for high volume workload and the ability to meet deadlines to ensure critical vacancies are filled in a timely manner.

  • This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. Normal business hours are 8:00 am-5:00 pm. Must be able to travel overnight and work overtime as needed.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:

  • Demonstrated experience with Criminal Justice and DAC policies/standards with hiring certified positions.

  • Demonstrated knowledge working with databases to track applicant and/or position information, such as ATS or EMS.

Associate s degree, typically in Human Resources or relevant field from an appropriately accredited institution and 1 year of experience required;

or

2 years of progressive experience in Human Resources; or equivalent combination or education and experience.The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction is responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons, Correction Enterprises, the Division of Community Supervision and the Division of Rehabilitation & Reentry.

Applicants seeking National Guard Preference must attach a NGB 23A (RPAS) if they are a current member of the NC National Guard in good standing.  If a former member of the NC National Guard who served for at least 6 years and was discharged under honorable conditions, they must attach either a DD256 or NGB 22.

If applicants earned college credit hours but did not complete a degree program, they must attach an unofficial transcript to each application to receive credit for this education.
