Job Duties

The Virginia Workers' Compensation Commission, an independent State agency, seeks a wage Grants Specialist to administer grant responsibilities for the Virginia Victims Fund (VVF). This position prepares and submits grant documents to the federal government on behalf of VVF, communicates with stakeholders on behalf of VVF's grant responsibilities; and collaborates with the Financial Services Department for grant fund reporting. Must past criminal background check.

This position is a wage (hourly) position anticipated to work approximately 16-29 hours per week.

VWC Compensation Structure

Virginia Workers' Compensation Commission is an independent agency which allows us to have a more competitive and unique pay structure. Our positions are not classified under DHRM's pay bands. This position is a wage position limited to 29 hours per week, and a maximum of 1,500 hours per year.

Telework Structure

Our agency is currently using a hybrid model for teleworking. Our positions at this time are not 100% teleworking. All candidates would be expected to report to our Headquarters/Regional Office as requested. Telework scheduling is at the discretion of the Director/Manager based on the business needs of the department. Upon hire, candidates should expect to have all training and orientation conducted at the Headquarters Office.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience with federal grant administration and fulfilling federal grantee obligations

  • Experience with JustGrants, GAMS, SAMS, PMT, and other federal grantee databases and systems

  • Experience with procurement/grant-making process

  • Experience creating accurate and comprehensive reports

  • Knowledge of federal grant programs, monitoring, and reporting procedures

  • Knowledge of outcomes and outcome measures and the ability to understand systems and identify inter-related activities

  • Working knowledge of Victims of Crime Act grant programs, applicable Code of Federal Regulations, and guidance documents

  • Demonstrated ability to manage several projects simultaneously and work both collaboratively and independently to meet deadline

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to professionally interact with all levels of stakeholders

  • Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail

  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications including Word, Outlook, Power Point, and Excel; data entry and retrieval from computer databases; and Internet research principles.

Additional Considerations

  • Experience drafting applications for federal grant awards preferred
