The Position

Under general supervision, review and determine program eligibility for financial assistance in compliance withstatutory requirements of the Victims of Crime Program.Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

This position works in the Hearings Division's Victims of Crime Program in the Las Vegas office. This position is responsible for maintaining confidentiality while reviewing police reports and applications, interviewing victims and issuing decisions; ensuring program statutes and policies are followed appropriately with regard to decisions and medical claims; and defends program decisions at hearing and provides training and outreach for the public.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of experience conducting interviews and documenting findings; interpreting and explaining program rules, regulations, policies and procedures; gathering and analyzing information from various sources; and preparing reports and recommendations; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action. Southern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services (SNAMHS) is currently recruiting for a Forensic Specialist 4 for Stein Forensic Hospital. This is a promotional opportunity for DPBH staff. Stein Hospital, located in Las Vegas, NV, is a secure forensic hospital providing inpatient forensic services for adults who are court committed, serving Southern Nevada. Forensic Specialist 4's perform a combination of security and clinical related work in a secure mental health facility for the treatment of mentally disordered offenders. Forensic Specialist 4's also supervise a group of subordinate Forensic Specialists by providing training, assigning and reviewing work, preparing performance evaluations and recommending various types of personnel actions. As a condition of employment, employees must be able to work overtime on short notice, be able to work on weekends and holidays, be called back to work in case of emergency or staff shortages, and be placed on standby status if necessary. In addition, applicants must have attained and maintained valid certification as required by statute and regulation; OR four years of experience which included one year as a Forensic Specialist III in Nevada State service and valid certification as required by statute and regulation; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Notes Applicants must meet current Peace Officers' Standards and Training (POST) requirements as established in the Nevada Revised Statutes and Nevada Administrative Code. Incumbents must successfully complete Peace Officers' Standards and Training (POST) certification training as required by law. Some positions require incumbents to obtain and maintain certification as a mental health technician per NRS 433.279 as a condition of continuing employment. Special Requirements Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment. Working weekends and/or holidays is required. CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment. Applicants must successfully complete a pre-employment physical and be free of active tuberculosis. A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. Must be a U.S. citizen and 21 years of age at the time of appointment.
