Summary

Responsible for maintaining the City's urban trees. Involves: trimming trees, tree removal, planting trees, and cutting brush. Operates City vehicle, equipment, and tools needed to complete assigned duties. Supervises assigned crew.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Inspects, prunes and removes trees located in City parks, open spaces, and other areas assigned to the Parks and Recreation Department

• Operates equipment associated with tree care; lift truck, dump truck, brush truck, tractors / shredders, stump grinders, tree spade, front loader / backhoe and handheld equipment

• Conducts tree inspections on a pre-set schedule; cuts and trims trees/limb as needed

• Leads, trains, schedules, and supervises tree care crew

• Assists with maintaining the city's tree farm

• Manages the planting, establishment, and maintenance of trees

• Works with Parks Division Director to track man hours and resources spent on tree care as related to the city's Tree City USA renewals

• Coordinates and works with outside contractors on various landscape projects

• Completes bi-weekly payroll, creates and reviews goals for landscaping team

• Purchases approved equipment and PPE required for the job

• Supports special events and tournaments both City and private and helps with the set up and take down of the portable stage

• Ensures safety procedures are followed on the job site

• Follow all safety policies and procedures

• Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent

• Two (2) years of experience in tree care, landscaping, horticultural services or related area

• One (1) year of experience in a lead or supervisory role

Preferred Qualifications

• Formal training in horticultural services and techniques

• Bilingual in English & Spanish

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

• Valid Commercial Driver's license
