Position Summary

Responsible for leading a group of unskilled and semi-skilled employees and assisting in the completion of work activities.

Pay Grade: 43

Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Four (4) years of vegetation, construction, or asphalt experience, of which two (2) years must be in a staff supervisory or lead capacity; AND

  2. Tenth (10) grade education; AND

  3. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Supervises and coordinates the daily activities of assigned work crews, and/or inmate work lines involving asphalt cut-out repairs, pothole patching, removal of trees and/or limbs from road right-of-ways (ROW), ROW mowing, herbicide applications, roadside litter abatement, illegal dumpsite clean-up, various types of concrete construction, bridge repairs, piping, and drainage conveyance system repairs.

  2. Prepares and maintains daily activity reports and records to provide CTAS unit cost, performance evaluation information, and special project data needed for any quotes, invoicing, and reimbursements to Roads, Bridges, and Engineering.

  3. Ensures the proper usage/limitations and operator maintenance on all assigned equipment.

  4. Participates as required in the work of assigned crews to accomplish work tasks or to demonstrate "how to" tasks to be performed.

  5. Performs other related duties as assigned and directed.

KSA's

  1. Ability to direct and supervise the work of others.

  2. Knowledge of semi-skilled trade.

  3. Skills to operate all necessary equipment and/or tools to assist in performing of job.

  4. Ability to maintain communication written and verbal.

  5. Knowledge of activities and projects carried out in the organizational unit.

  6. Ability to maintain records and perform arithmetic.

  7. Possession of a valid driver's license.

  8. Knowledge of the maintenance, repair, construction, and improvement in specified areas of work.

  9. Ability to perform routine maintenance of equipment, tools, etc., used in trade.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to consistently lift seventy-five (75) to ninety (90) pounds.

Special Requirements

  1. Must possess a valid Tennessee Commercial Driver's License with a "Class B" Tanker endorsement or secure one prior to the end of new employment probation.

  2. Must pass a physical examination.

  3. Must submit to and pass drug and alcohol screening.
