The CMBS Credit Risk VP is expected to exercise personal credit authority delegated within the broader Barclays credit risk management framework. In addition, the CMBS VP will maintain integrity of the risk function while ensuring that the team continues to fully support Front Office relationship and sales staff. The VP will also prepare credit papers for new transactions and quarterly reviews/Watchlist reports, present those credits at relevant Credit Committees, and assist senior team members in the preparation of Global/Regional Industry reviews.

What will you be doing?

  • Effective credit risk management of credits within the Primary CMBS Loan Origination segment (conduit, large loan, and CRE CLO warehouse financing)

  • Ensuring continued growth of the business without incurring unmanageable risks

  • Engage in assessing and making recommendations of proposals received from business development/product areas

  • Stay current with financial analysis and risk profile of the assigned sector, borrowers, and counterparties

  • Alerting senior management to negative developments and trends within the assigned sectors and clients

  • Maintain data integrity of appropriate Credit Risk systems (e.g. GCIS) and ensure they reflect the approved sanction

  • Continuous development of industry knowledge through research, contacts, and participation in seminars

  • Continuous development of product knowledge in accordance with product offerings of the firm, and maintenance and control of credit files for assigned portfolio.

What we're looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance/Economics or Real Estate related discipline
  • 7 years of experience in credit risk or relevant experience covering both Investment Grade and Leveraged and/or Sub-Investment Grade clients in the Real Estate sector
  • 3 years of experience across core CRE sub-classes (e.g. office, retail, multifamily, lodging and industrial)
  • 3 years of CMBS and/or Middle Market Commercial Real Estate underwriting experience.

Skills that will help you in the role:

  • Formal Credit training from a major institution preferred.

  • Knowledge of key rating agency approaches and criteria.

  • Understanding of corporate finance and banking products, related markets, documentation and precedents.

  • Possess a high degree of self-motivation, the ability to drive for results, and track record of setting and achieving goals and meeting schedules.

Exercises independent judgment by displaying and reaching conclusions on the most complex portfolio issues as well as assumes accountability for high quality recommendations regarding the credit portfolio. Quantifies and analyzes risk exposure characteristics for retail credit portfolios Researches, evaluates, develops, tests and applies quantitative models and methodologies for analyzing risk exposures and collection strategies. Performs independent analytical initiatives including portfolio modeling, Stress Testing and migration analysis. Works with TDBFG Analysts to determine and validate key Probability of Default (PD), Loss Given Default (LGD), and Exposure at Default (EAD) factors that are critical to internal Allowance for Loan and Lease Loss measures. Prepares and delivers management reporting necessary to ensure accurate and thorough measurement of risk factors present in retail credit products. Develops and documents systems/tools to automate calculations used in determining risk exposures. Researches and recommends standards for internal/external systems used to calculate and measure risk exposures. Recommends credit policy and underwriting standard modifications where warranted.
