Description Credit Analysts in the Business Credit Department perform financial analysis on new, existing, and renewing loan requests. The borrowers analyzed include a diversified portfolio of companies from many different industries. The analysts are also responsible for analyzing other financial exposures of the bank including vendor relationships, ACH originators, and portions of the commercial credit card portfolio.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare financial statement spreads and perform credit analysis on historical and projected financial information. This will include analysis of the bank's most complex current and prospective commercial borrowers, the bank's vendor relationships, and for other financial exposures. Make recommendations for how to proceed while taking the bank's policies and federal regulations into consideration.

  • Analyze business assets that serve as collateral and determine credit availability.

  • Monitor existing loans and/or loan portfolios to identify potential weakness in credit outstanding.

  • Provide support to commercial lenders by performing research and statistical analysis.

  • Create and maintain reports which reflect trends and the financial condition of business customers.

  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

  • Understand and comply with all provisions of the Safety in the Workplace policy.

Requirements MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OF POSITION

  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree in related field (Business, preferably Finance or Accounting) and a minimum of 3 years of related experience. A combination of post-high school education, job related certification and related experience equivalent to 7 years may be considered in lieu of minimum requirements.

  • Strong understanding of personal and business financial statements and tax returns

  • Basic understanding of the banking/lending industry

  • Strong PC skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

  • Excellent analytical and decision making skills

  • Thorough understanding of credit file documentation

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills

  • High initiative and self-motivation

  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work is performed in an office environment with moderate noise levels and light to heavy traffic. An individual in this position:

  • Frequently remains stationary throughout a typical business day

  • Frequently operates a computer and other office machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer

  • Occasionally moves about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, and other rooms

  • Occasionally positions self to access drawers and shelves of various heights

  • Frequently reaches for and handles paperwork and files

  • Constantly communicates with customers, coworkers, and management in-person and on the phone

  • Must be able to exchange accurate information

The Credit Risk Analyst will Independently examine the level of risk within the bank's loan and investment portfolio. The Analyst will review individual loan files to understand and assess the structure, sources of repayment and exceptions of each loan. They provide written reports for each review summarizing their individual assessments. The grading and exceptions determined from these reviews directly affect the Allowance for Loan and Lease Losses and are reviewed by regulatory agencies and external auditors throughout the year. Additionally, they prepare various reports for upper management. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Examine complex loans and investments to determine compliance with all appropriate regulations, bank policies, and Loan Committee minutes. * Prepare financial statement spreads and perform credit analysis on historical and projected financial information. * Analyze individual loans to assess cash flow adequacy and collateral protection. * Evaluate and verify appropriate loan grades and structures. * Support commercial lenders by performing research, statistical analysis, and fielding questions related to Loan Policy. * Interpret Loan Policy, Appraisal Policy, and lending regulations. * Prepare a written report of borrower's cash flow, trends, loan structure, and any exceptions to Loan Policy for every loan reviewed. * Analyze problem loans held in the portfolio. * Prepare and/or perform a quality assurance check of the Allowance for Loan and Lease Losses. * May perform secondary reviews of other Analyst and Associate Analyst's initial review. * Train new Analysts and Associate Analysts. * Provide guidance and support to other Analysts and Associate Analysts. * Perform other duties and projects as assigned to include loan reserve balancing, charge-off reporting, FDIC reports, loss rate analysis, large borrower reports, and quality assurance reviews. * Understand and comply with all provisions of the Safety in the Workplace policy. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Basic background with underwriting and credit analysis, the ability to apply basic credit risk concepts to individual credit analyses, desire to take responsibility for independent work, flexibility to multitask, and capacity to prioritize workload to meet deadlines are required to complete the job functions.
