Job Description:

The Office of Workforce Development & Continuing Education at Dutchess Community College delivers programming that addresses the skills needed by employers so students can land positions with career growth and high earning potential.

Currently we are seeking a part-time, credit-free instructor to teach entry level manufacturing courses as part of the Hudson Valley Future of Work Center grant. Courses to be taught include CNC Fundamentals, Certified Production Technician, Fundamentals of Metrology, and Certified Manufacturing Associate. This is a part-time position with days/times to be determined based on training schedule. The credit-free instructor may perform teaching duties in classrooms in Poughkeepsie and Fishkill, off-campus at company sites, and/or online platforms. They will provide high-quality, engaging instruction in the areas of entry-level advanced manufacturing, hand tools, general workplace safety, math for the workplace, reading instructions and blue prints. This position is grant funded and is currently expected to end December 31, 2024, although renewal is possible.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Instruct students on the principles, terminology, tools and equipment used for entry level manufacturing, trade or other skilled work

  • Align learning outcomes to in-demand workplace skills and prepare students for credentialed exam

  • Develop instruction materials and labs appropriate to the course goals to meet learning objectives and accommodate a variety of learning styles

  • Assess and evaluate students' technical ability and knowledge using clear criteria relevant to the course content and learning outcomes

  • Instruct students in social skills and professional behaviors

  • Maintain an organized and supportive classroom environment and keep accurate records including attendance, class rosters and students' academic progress

  • Communicate trainee student progress, barriers and attendance to Pathways Navigator/Coach

Requirements:

Desired Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing or Engineering or related degree

  • 3+ years' experience in industry related field

  • A strong interest in teaching, mentoring, and coaching (Prior teaching or training experience helpful but not required)

  • A commitment to fully engaging in DCC instructor-education and instructor-improvement opportunities

  • Demonstrated commitment to remaining current in emerging trends, topics, and new research in subject matter area(s) of expertise

  • The ability to communicate and work effectively with a diverse student body, faculty, and staff

  • Experience supporting individuals with special needs

  • Proficiency with MS Office, familiarity with Zoom, MS Teams or Google Meet.

  • Demonstrated experience in the field of study to qualify as a master-level practitioner

Additional Information:

Hourly rate of pay: $40.00/hour

This position is grant funded and is expected to end December 31, 2024 with the possibility of renewal.
