Job Description:

The Credit Consultant, Sr will provide consulting and strategic services to Credit staff and line managers on Credit products and services and develops. Additionally, this role will implement programs that support the strategic plan, including developing and recommending changes to policies and procedures to ensure alignment with Credit and corporate strategy. The Credit Consultant, Sr role will also serve as a project manager over a major project in one or more areas.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities to include:

  • Serving as lead consultant with business lines, delivery channel and other business partners in credit program/support areas such as, preparing various asset quality and portfolio management reports, maintaining/monitoring various credit quality and portfolio management tracking or tickler systems, managing profitable off-balance-sheet transactions, etc.

  • Applying and tailoring customer financial and other reporting to align and influence strategic plans and customer growth/retention.

  • Performing special projects as needed including, but not limited to, preparation of ad hoc reports, creation of new asset quality or portfolio management tracking reports, coordination of testing deliverables, etc.


  • Bachelors or equivalent in work experience; Masters preferred

  • 6-8 years specific banking; 8-10 preferred

  • Accurate typing, spelling and grammar skills.

  • Proficient with applicable computer software.

  • Good written and oral communication skills.

  • Good organizational and customer service skills.

  • Experience in consumer lending necessary

JOB FUNCTION / SUMMARY: Responsible for assessing the credit quality of the loan portfolio through the review of individual loans and cultivation of an intimate knowledge of all management information available regarding the portfolio as a whole and various aspects thereof by performing the following duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: * Performs reviews on large commercial relationships, reporting results and making recommendations to improve credit quality to include, but is not limited to, documentation, compliance with loan policy and procedures, credit and underwriting and interfaces with the lender on their responses * Proficiently extracts and reviews samples of various segments of the portfolio and analyzes results to reach conclusions regarding asset quality of the portfolio as a whole and/or various aspects thereof * Assembles raw loan portfolio data from diverse sources into meaningful reporting information for use in quantifying and assessing asset quality of the portfolio as a whole and various segments and/or aspects of the portfolio   * Informs supervisor of discrepancies in the perceived risk ratings as compared to the current risk rating assigned to the loan/relationship * Prepares and distributes formal reports derived from the review and analysis of information obtained presenting both quantitative and qualitative evaluations of the asset quality of the overall portfolio and various segments and or aspects of the portfolio and offering recommendations to effect improvement. * Assists the Credit Review Manager in gathering information, preparing reports, completing special projects, etc. * Tracks exceptions noted in reviews. * Serve as a member of the Due Diligence team for future acquisitions, if called upon. Supervisory Responsibilities Senior Staff members are responsible for their assigned review teams. This includes managing workflow, evaluating performance, and providing coaching when necessary. MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE: * Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university; at least seven years related experience, five years of which in a review capacity Certificates, Licenses, Registrations * Senior Reviewers should have one of the following: BAI Loan Review Certification, RMA Credit Risk Certification, CPA Certification, or equivalent professional certification. In addition, a graduate of Banking School would meet the requirements. ESSENTIAL MENTAL & PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS: * Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines * Ability to operate related equipment to perform the essential job functions * Ability to read and interpret a document if required to perform the essential job functions * Ability to travel if required to perform the essential job functions * Ability to lift/move/carry approximately 10 pounds if required to perform the essential job functions.
