To enhance the return of Voya Investment Management's different client portfolios by performing fundamental credit research and making timely trade recommendations based on relative value and expected changes in issuer profiles. You will be responsible for recommending trades and for monitoring the credit quality of holdings in the insurance accounts, pension fund, and mutual fund family. You will assume coverage of select industries within the investment grade corporate universe. You will work with guidance from the Co-Heads of Investment Grade (IG) Credit and from interaction with the Investment Grade Credit Team's senior analysts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform fundamental credit analysis and construct financial models on investment grade public corporate bond issuers primarily within industrials industry sectors.

  • Develop research strategies to find the best relative value among issuers and among the industry sectors assigned.

  • Build relationships with Wall Street brokers, traders, and analysts to glean additional insights on market, industry, and issuer credit developments.

  • Collaborate with portfolio managers to implement portfolio strategies.

  • Participate in relative value/credit meetings.

  • Where applicable, provide 2A-7 credit support for the money market portfolio.

  • Perform ad hoc credit analysis support for other departments as assigned on occasion.

  • Understand and follow firm policies and procedures while performing the roles outlined above.


  • Approximately 3-5 years of credit analysis experience.

  • CFA Designation or equivalent preferred.

  • Strong skills in credit analysis and problem solving.

  • Ability to be forward-looking and to correlate anticipated changes in credit quality with relative value.

  • Detail oriented yet able to maintain a broad perspective.

  • Ability to clearly and concisely communicate investment recommendations both verbally and in writing.

  • Strong teammate who believes in an integrated team driven investment process.

  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong computer and data management skills.

Additional Information

The job is based in Atlanta, GA. Previous experience with a top-tier buy-side/sell-side firm is helpful.

The incumbent will also be involved in executing derivative transactions. The Analyst will work within establish policies and parameters along with the then current strategy. The Analyst can be relied upon to manage and perform certain functions and processes as required. The Analyst has good understanding of data and systems as necessary or appropriate to perform their particular responsibilities and may be able to resolve certain problems but is still developing the skills necessary to be a more autonomous decision maker and problem solver. RESPONSIBILITY RATING: Moderate JOB REQUIREMENTS: * Bachelor's degree in finance, economics or other related field * 1 to 3 years of experience in bank portfolio and funding management preferred * Interest in managing bank funding and liquidity * Interest in fixed income investments * Understanding of accounting and regulatory environment for banks a plus * Must be dynamic, analytical, entrepreneurial, creative, able to multi-task under time constraints * Highly motivated and focused on delivering concrete results * Must work well both independently or as part of a team * Possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills * Participate in all required compliance training, including Bank Secrecy Act/anti-money laundering training, as well as internal and external training programs, online training, meetings, and seminars/conferences, etc. JOB FUNCTIONS: General * Prepare and retain reporting materials for the Investment Committee; Credit and Counterparty Risk Committee; Funding and Liquidity Management; ALCO and Board meetings oensure complete processes and procedures exist to maintain business continuity and provide a basis for process auditing and examination * Complete ad-hoc projects as needed Investment Portfolio Management * Ensure Investment Committee meeting minutes are produced and are provided for review to the Director of Portfolio Management & Funding in a timely fashion * Develop and maintain proficiency with the bank's bond analytic system (BondEdge), trading and portfolio management system (TPG), and Bloomberg; have a working understanding of the bond accounting functions within TPG * Develop and produce customized reports as directed by the Director of Portfolio Management & Funding using BondEdge, TPG, Bloomberg or other sources of information * Work closely as part of the Portfolio Management Team to develop strategies and tactics to achieve strategic objectives * Ensure all investment transactions comply with all Bank policies and procedures and are entered timely and correctly into TPG along with any other systems that track investments * Become familiar with regulations such as the Dodd Frank Act, SR Letters, the Examiner's Handbook, and other regulatory guidance with respect to bank investment management practices. Maintain copies of guidance documents for reference * Periodically provide peer bank analysis as directed Counterparty Credit and Risk Management * Ensure CCRM meeting minutes are produced and are provided to the Director of Portfolio Management & Funding for review in a timely fashion * Produce periodic counterparty risk analysis including on-going surveillance of approved counterparties * Ensure counterparty risk remains in compliance with established risk tolerances, Counterparty Credit Risk Policy and the Risk Appetite Statement, and report exceptions immediately to the Director of Portfolio Management & Funding Funding & Liquidity ("F&L") Management * Develop a detailed knowledge and understanding of all of the cash flows of the Bank and is affiliates in order to develop detailed cash flow and liquidity forecasts * Develop an understanding of the entire balance sheet as it impacts liquidity and funding * Create and maintain reports to manage funding gaps across the entire liability structure of the balance sheet * Develop an understanding of funds management, wholesale funding products and pricing including: Fed Funds, Brokered CDs and MMDAs, FHLB Advances, Repo and Reverse Repo, and other borrowings * Develop a detailed understanding of the borrowing base calculations used with the FHLB * Develop and maintain a relationship with funding counterparties and interbank brokers * On a daily basis, transact with the FHLB, Fed Funds Counterparties or other funding sources to manage the Bank's liquidity levels within established parameters * Using the models, prepare various liquidity forecasts (short and long term) on a routine basis * Prepare, develop, and maintain liquidity stress testing scenarios * Develop an understanding of Liquidity Policy, the Contingency Funding Plan ("CFP") and Risk Appetite Statement ("RAS") and assist in updating these as may be required * Monitor bank compliance with Liquidity Policy and the RAS, and report exceptions to the Director of Portfolio Management & Funding * Ensure all wholesale funding transaction comply with all Bank policies and procedures * Ensure all wholesale funding transactions are entered timely and correctly into TPG along with any other systems that track wholesale funding * Evaluate the relative value of funding options across various products and make recommendations as appropriate * Manage the use of derivatives to alter the risk profile and cash flows of wholesale funding in a manner consistent with objectives * Maintaining the bank's reserve position at the Federal Reserve Bank * Contribute to the active management of the wholesale funding position and identify cost-efficient sources of funds and market opportunities as they arise Derivative Management * Develop an understanding of derivative pricing and the systems used for pricing derivatives * Execute balance sheet or customer derivatives transactions with dealers Maintain relationship with swap dealers * Ensure transactions are executed with approved counterparties and such exposures are within established limits * Ensure all derivative transactions comply with all banks policies and procedures and are properly input into TPG and other derivatives tracking systems OTHER * Ensure compliance with all policies and report any exceptions immediately to Director of Portfolio Management & Funding; * Ensure full documentation is maintained for all processes, procedures and assumptions to ensure business continuity and to provide a basis for process auditing; * Ensue files are well organized and documented; * Be familiar with and maintain compliance with the Bank's model and spreadsheet policies; * Assist with other Treasury department projects as needed; * Provide back up to Director of Portfolio Management & Funding as requested; and * Other duties as assigned United Community Bank Atlanta GA
