GENERAL FUNCTION: Critical Customer facing position performs a wide range of duties related to the processing and underwriting of residential mortgage loans.

Maintains contact with external and internal customers to ensure customer needs workflowanddeadlines are met. Assumes responsibility as the point person and coordinates processing the loan file from loan application to loan closure. Proactively communicates status on the loan with both the borrower and the Mortgage Loan Originator,andmanages process flow and deliverables in order to meet the Customer's needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

. Manage a pipeline of conventional, government, and/or portfolio loans.

. Act as coordinator of loan in relation to customer needs and interests.

. Process all loan types which may include conventional, FHA, VA, Bond, USDA, special programs, self-employed, and complex loan types.

. Partners with other departments (Underwriting, Closing, Sales, etc.) for optimal customer experience.

. Underwrite conventional loans within the scope of your approval authority as a credit analyst.

. Manage expected service levels and productivity requirements related to decision and condition clearing.

. Update information on systems to review conditions, and add, delete, satisfy, or waive as appropriate.

. Notify Loan Originators with the decision on the loan within established timeframes after underwriting and completing the loan file.

. Evaluate loan documentation, calculate income, review assets, analyze liabilities, and clear conditions per delegated authority.

. Validate automated underwriting decision per delegated authority.

. Maintain high level of customer service by being proactive in communicating with the borrowers and loan originators.

. Ensure accurate, complete, and timely loan data on processing system.

. Actively participate in ongoing efforts to continually improve customer service for internal and external customers.

. Review pipeline reports to ensure all tasks are completed.

. Serve as an intermediary for loan issues with Loan Originators, Underwriters and other related departments.

. Assist in training new hires.

. Take active role as an escalation point and resource within the team based on experience/knowledge.

. Responsible for appropriate disposition in accordance with all regulatory guidelines as provided by Fifth Third Bank.

. Obtain and maintain knowledge of Fifth Third Mortgage Company policies and procedures.

. Perform any other duties as assigned.

. Assist the processing managers when required with coaching, escalations, balancing workloads, etc.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

. High school diploma or equivalent required.

. Three (3) or more years of residential mortgage experience in processing required

. In depth knowledge of conventional, government, and portfolio underwriting guidelines.

. Knowledge of processing underwriting and closing procedures preferred.

. High degree of attention to detail.

. Ability to make high quality decisions and execute in a time sensitive manner.

. Knowledge of federal lending regulations governing residential real estate lending.

. Demonstrated organizational skills. Strong written and verbal communications skills.

. Demonstrated teamwork and customer service skills with a collaborative approach to both internal and external partners. All while keeping the customer at the center of all you do and showing them that you care.

. Strong computer skills (MS Office) required, experience with Mortgage origination systems, platforms tools and technology preferred.

  • This position requires SAFE Act registration at the time of employment through the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS). Fifth Third Bank will assist with the registration process and completion.

The NMLS web site (mortgage.nationwidelicensingsystem.org) provides the MU4R questions and successful registration is required for employment in this position.

VIEW JOBS 1/16/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-04-16T00:00 The Senior Credit Underwriter is responsible for underwriting and analyzing complex loan transactions generally carrying credit authority in excess of $10 million. The incumbent may also conduct comprehensive global analysis of large exposure customers within the commercial loan portfolio. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: * Prepares a full credit package for complex loan requests generally involving loan exposure in excess of $10 million, which shall include an in depth high quality credit analysis covering financial analysis, cash flow analysis, collateral assessment, evaluation of repayment sources, assessment of the loan structure and assignment of a risk rating. * Performs global analysis of large exposure customers within the commercial loan portfolio with duties including: * Gathering data via collaborative efforts with loan officers and/or customers for large exposure global reviews. Such information shall include global cash flows, financial statements, tax returns and K-1 schedules as well as credit files, officer's memos and appraisal reports. * Analysis of data gathered to identify and assess trends, issues and concentrations within the customer relationship. * Preparation of high quality, well written reports assessing risk exposure, credit quality and risk outlook within each large exposure relationship. * Assists the Team Leader in the supervision of junior members of the team by providing training and guidance to the staff. * Ensures loan structure is consistent with Loan Policy. * Identifies credit policy exceptions and incorporates suitable mitigants into the credit package. * Proactively communicates with Loan Officers during the underwriting process. * Conducts and participates in customer meetings/conference calls. * Participates in department projects as requested. Required Skills: * Strong knowledge of financial accounting. * Thorough understanding of commercial credit and strong credit quality skills including accounting, financial statement analysis and cash flow analysis experience. * Strong analytical and problem solving skills. * Strong organizational skills with attention to detail. * Excellent communication skills: express ideas and convey technical information in writing and verbally. * Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel and performing internet searches. * Ability to work in a fast paced environment and move quickly through assignments to ensure deadlines are met. * Ability to work effectively with individuals and groups to manage internal and external customer relationships. * Thorough understanding of risk and consequences of errors in formulating decisions and providing direction to others. Required Experience: * High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of three (3) years of experience in underwriting commercial loan and or commercial real estate deals or three (3) years of VNB credit underwriting experience combined with the completion of formal training. * Bachelors Degree preferred.
