COMMERCIAL CREDIT ANALYST

Role

Responsible for providing competent credit analysis for lending activities, assistance in the administration of borrowing accounts, training for business loan staff, and assistance in completion of special projects and assignments. Underwrites loan requests for business and commercial real estate borrowers, including reviewing and analyzing financial and industry data, borrower performance and management capabilities; verifies credit references and information; and recommends credit limits. Prepares reports on the status of credit and collections, and other operating systems.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare objective written loan presentations for Loan Officers and Loan Committee including analyzing financial condition, operating performance, and repayment ability of commercial borrowers utilizing financial statements and/or tax returns, collateral documentation, information from borrower interviews, and industry and economic data. Compare liquidity, profitability, and credit histories of businesses being evaluated with those in the same industry and, when possible, similar geographic location.

  • Perform the initial credit analyses, including financial statement spreads, business and personal debt service coverage calculations, review of past payment history, etc. to determine if customer loan requests satisfy policy and procedure guidelines. Make recommendations to Loan Officers on loan structure and when loan requests fall outside of policy.

  • Interact directly with borrowers and lenders, as appropriate; to gather the information required to make recommendations on credit decisions and back-up the relationship managers for credit related inquiries.

  • Support the achievement of organizational objectives and the success of individual colleagues through the timely completion of various reports and projects, mentorship of less tenured lenders and analysts, and willingness to effect and adapt to change. Assist auditors and examiners in their periodic reviews.

  • Ensures credit unions' adherence to regulatory policies; minimize variance from the credit unions lending policies and procedures. Must comply with all company policies and procedures, applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3-5 years' experience as a credit analyst in commercial banking or commercial real estate environment preferred.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Software required; exposure to Suntell or similar loan underwriting software a plus.

  • Working knowledge of commercial lending practices and industry standards.

  • Ability to comprehend and utilize appraisal reports, environmental reports, title work and loan documentation.

  • Exceptional organization, time management and follow-up skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with members, employees and outside service providers.

  • Ability to follow detailed instructions on wide range of procedures requiring superb analytical skills, detailed documentation, and sound judgement.

  • Must have proficient typing and computer skills.

Education/Certifications/Licenses

Bachelor's degree in business, finance or accounting or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.

Interpersonal Skills

A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required to be an effective subject matter expert in the position. In-depth dialogues, conversations and explanations with customers, direct and indirect reports and outside vendors of a sensitive and/or highly confidential nature is a normal part of the day-to-day experience. Communications can involve motivating, influencing, educating and/or advising others on matters of significance.

Physical Requirements

Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.

Working Conditions

Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise.

Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. VIEW JOBS 10/4/2019 12:00:00 AM 2020-01-02T00:00 Appraisal Review Specialist Role This position is responsible for ordering and reviewing commercial and residential real estate appraisals and performing complex evaluations and validations. The position may also be responsible for reviewing environmental assessment reports or other complex appraisals and recommending further study when necessary. Conducts pre and post-delivery reviews based upon logical analysis and sound judgement for the primary purpose of determining report quality and compliance with regulatory guidelines. The Reviewer will be responsible for effectively coaching vendors and appraisers regarding commonly accepted appraisal practices and working to resolve valuation discrepancies in a timely manner to provide the most reliable and well supported value recommendation possible. This position requires multi-tasking and the ability to prioritize in a high paced, production environment. This position reports to the VP of Credit. Major Duties and Responsibilities 1. 40% Performs detailed technical and compliance reviews of appraisal reports to determine compliance with USPAP, FIRREA and Interagency Appraisal & Evaluation Guidelines. Validate that the appraised value was based on the appropriate appraisal methodology and that multiple approaches were reconciled properly and confirm the appraiser's reasoning, logic, and conclusions are sound. Resolves valuation differences/discrepancies between appraisers and loan production staff while maintaining appraiser Independence. 2. 20% Orders appraisals of commercial real estate and/or environmental reports for Credit Union personnel. Competently understands a moderate level of complexity of real estate taken as collateral. Effectively communicates requirements to external fee appraisers, and external environmental engineering firms, and determines which service providers are most appropriate for a particular assignment. Must be able to advise Credit Union personnel on matters of type of appraisal, types of values needed, required valuation scenarios, and/or environmental reports. 3. 15% Perform in-house analysis of construction projects based on the client's cost budget(s), scope of work, and local market sales. Work in conjunction with borrowers, contractors (general and subs), monitoring firms and title companies to ensure projects remain on time and budget for completion. Process draws for construction loans, ensuring the work is completed and that the Credit Union preserves its priority lien position. 4. 10% Performs real estate evaluations and validations of commercial real estate appraisals. 5. 5% Adheres to all applicable laws and regulations governing Credit Union operations, including compliance with BSA/AML Policy and Procedures. Follows policies and procedures; completes tasks correctly and on time; supports the company's goals and values. 6. 5% Maintains advanced knowledge of real estate value trends and property developments to ensure valuations conform to current market conditions. Trains and provides assistance to other teammates in Credit Administration, Commercial and Consumer Lending (Real Estate) and other related departments 7. 5% Assists with maintenance and quality control of the Credit Union's Approved Appraiser list. A minimum of five years of commercial review experience as a licensed Credit Union reviewer is preferred. Demonstrated advanced working knowledge of regulations affecting the appraisal industry to include FIRREA, USPAP and the Interagency Guidelines. Demonstrated advanced working knowledge of the practical aspects of real estate appraisal. Education/Certifications/Licenses Bachelor's Degree. State general certification or SRA license preferred. Able to obtain the necessary continuing education hours each year to keep the license or certification current.
