REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to: Office Manager, Office Supervisor, and/or Family Health Center Manager

GENERAL SUMMARY

Works under the supervision of the Office Manager, Service Line Manager, Office Supervisor, and/or Family Health Center Manager. The Credentialed Medical Assistant's primary job function is to provide assistance to the provider with patient exams. Collects data on patient vitals, documents patient medical history and current complaints, phones/electronically sends prescriptions to pharmacies, operates various medical equipment, and may perform patient education. Also, orders all medical supplies and maintains a drug sample log. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required

Licensure:

  • Credentialed Medical Assistant - CMA, RMA, CCMA, NCMA, AMCA required.
  • BLS within 90 days of hire required

Experience:

  • Minimum one month of on the job training preferred.

Interpersonal Skills:

  • Ability to develop positive interactions with patients, patient families, co-workers, and providers in order to effectively care for patients

Essential Technical/Motor Skills:

  • Copying, calibrating equipment, speaking clearly, answering telephone, fine dexterity, precise manipulations, handling, and gripping

Essential Physical Requirements:

  • Carrying/Lifting/Transferring (Occasionally lifts in excess of 100 pounds and frequently carries 50 pounds when lifting and transporting patients), pushing, pulling, communicating, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, holding, ambulating, walking and restraining

Essential Mental Requirements:

  • Calculations, interpreting numbers, analyzing, assessing, evaluating, explaining, teaching, attention to detail, memory and reasoning

Essential Sensory Requirements:

  • Ability to see, hear, feel and verbalize

Exposure to Hazards:

  • Fumes/odors, potentially dangerous equipment, toxic materials, body fluids/blood/tissue, and exposure to or use of sharps

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

The following is a summary of the major job duties of this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.

1.Makes phone calls for patient referrals and prescription requests and documents into the patients' charts.

2.Assists the provider with patient examinations, procedures, venipuncture, and other diagnostic testing.

3.Collects and documents patient vitals, chief complaints, pain assessment, and past medical history.

4.Organizes drug closet and updates drug sample log.

5.Ensures that clinical supplies are properly stocked.

6.Reviews charts for next day's appointments and pulls lab results, etc. as necessary.

7.Logs and updates medication lists for patients.

8.Assists with answering phones, scheduling appointments and scanning.

9.Works with Surgery Department and Central Scheduling on scheduling procedures.



  1. Contacts insurance companies to obtain necessary Authorization/Precertification.

  2. Manages the care of the patient in collaboration with other members of the health care team in order to meet the health care needs of the patient.

  3. Performs pre-cleaning, decontamination, and transports instruments that have been used on patients appropriately.

  4. Cross-trained to perform MOA duties.

  5. Floats to other Medical Care Foundation offices as needed.

  6. Follows vaccine and medication management policy

  7. Performs document import daily

  8. Reviews and handles ERX request with providers direction. Handles "failed" and "error" electronic prescriptions.

  9. Follows medical record documentation procedure as detailed in the MCF Documentation Assistant policy.

  10. Assists the provider in navigating the medical record.

  11. Present during the provider's performance of a clinical service and documents (on behalf of the provider) everything said during the course of the service.

  12. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Maintains refrigerator temperature logs, and medical equipment quality control logs daily

  • Completes controls accurately, consistently, and timely as outlined in the office policies and procedures.

  • Verifies accuracy on drug sample log to ensure correct inventory amounts, physician signatures, and documentation in patient EHR.

  • Prints e-prescribing reports daily, and maintains file of reports for designated time.
