The Carrington Research Extension Center is seeking a Foundation Seedstocks Research Technician for our Foundation seedstocks program. The person in this position is responsible for assisting in foundation seed production, cleaning and distribution and equipment maintenance and repair. The position requires diverse skills with major responsibilities to include assisting in planting, maintenance and harvest of foundation seedstocks; assisting with seed conditioning and distribution; performing maintenance and repair of farm-scale equipment; and assist with tasks related to general CREC needs. Come join our team as we use our newly built seed conditioning plant to serve the region.

Work Schedule:

Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with extended hours at various times of the year.

Advertised Salary:

$37,000 to $45,000 per year depending on experience with retirement plan and full coverage for family health insurance

Minimum Qualifications:

  • H.S. diploma

  • Related experience, with knowledge of field crop production and equipment operation

  • The experience or demonstrated ability to learn the skills necessary to operate and maintain large-scale field equipment

  • Willingness to be timely to work schedule and desire to put forth consistent and full work days

  • Experience with equipment maintenance

  • Current or ability/desire to attain a North Dakota Commercial Pesticide Applicators License

  • Good oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Valid Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 years hands-on and practical experience in crop production

  • Experience with field equipment operation

  • Experience with agricultural pesticide and fertilizer application

  • Experience with grain cleaning equipment

  • Computer software familiarity with programs such as Excel, Word, and Outlook

  • Verified experience in repair and maintenance of farm equipment

About Us:

The Carrington Research Extension Center (CREC) is one of seven NDSU Research Extension Centers and is located approximately 140 miles from the North Dakota State University campus at Fargo. The CREC has four scientists and four area extension specialist positions in the areas of agronomy, plant pathology, nutrient management and animal science. A professional and technical staff of 14 supports the CREC and NDSU based programs. The general responsibilities of the CREC include research and extension projects that address dryland and irrigated crop production, plant pathology, the soil resource, cropping/tillage systems, crop pest management, beef nutrition and beef production systems, nutrient/livestock management, crop and livestock integration, and foundation seedstocks production. The Carrington Research Extension Center is located in the drift prairie region of North Dakota and conducts research and educational programs for a significant part of North Dakota.

This position is located at the Carrington Research Extension Center near Carrington, North Dakota. Carrington is a thriving rural community of approximately 2,100 people in a widely diversified agricultural production region of east central North Dakota.
