We are currently looking for a Part Time Creative Arts Therapist/Recreational Therapist.

Required Availability: Sunday & Monday, 8:30am-5:00pm

Summary:

This position will plan and provide group and individual therapeutic services to our residents so that social, physical, emotional, and cognitive functioning is maximized. This position is responsible for assisting the Life Enrichment Manager with planning and executing therapeutic, recreational, and social programs for the residents that contribute to the improvement, maintenance and enhancement of the resident/patient quality of life, taking into account resident preferences, abilities, and challenges. This position provides oversight and supervision of volunteers as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Music Therapy, Dance Movement Therapy, Art Therapy, Drama Therapy, or Creative Arts Therapy required.

  • Professional certification as Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, Board Certified-Music Therapist, Registered Art Therapist, Registered Drama Therapist, board Certified Dance-Movement Therapist, or Licensed Creative Arts Therapist or ability to become certified within one year of hire required.

  • One year related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

  • Certification as a Dementia Practitioner (CDP) or eligibility to obtain CDP within 90 days of hire date through the National Certification Council for Dementia Practitioners (NCCDP) is required.

  • Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form, possess high-quality verbal and written communication abilities, and possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

  • Dynamic team player

  • Proficient in the operation of computer applications such as Microsoft Office, Publisher, etc.

Essential Duties:

  • Assists with planning and/or leading individual and group creative arts therapy or recreation therapy services in the Memory Support Assisted Living, skilled Nursing, and Assisted Living.

  • Assists with transportation of residents from each program location, as needed.

  • Assesses resident's needs, interests, and strengths through resident interviews and collaboration with family members, identifies interventions and goals to help maximize optimal functioning, and creates individualized programming based on interests.

  • Completes/monitors assessments, care plans, progress notes and other documentation related to activity pursuit patterns in compliance with facility requirements and policies as instructed by Director of Life Enrichment

  • Participates in meeting QAPI goals and objectives.

  • Participates in other meetings as assigned such as Care Plan meetings, Service Plan meetings, Huddles, and Program Planning meetings.

  • Conducts life enrichment groups and individual activities in a meaningful, person-directed, and individualized manner.

  • Motivates residents to partake in activities of choosing.

Directly supervises and coordinates tasks with Activity Assistants and GNAs assigned to provide hands on, direct care to day program participants through the day for safety and engagement. Essential Duties: * Plans daily program prior to day of operation in conjunction with all program staff, based on calendar. * Leads daily program of structured activities that is person-centered, engaging and therapeutically appropriate, incorporating cognitive, social, creative, physical and purposeful programs for persons with early and early-middle stages of cognitive decline. * Assesses the environment for safety risks to program members, assuring member's safety throughout program operation. Evaluates for and preserves program structure to impede wandering behaviors. * Directly supervises and/or accompanies members in person at all times during program operation. Assures assigned staff meet all members at start of day and assures pick up at day completion. * Assists with transportation of residents from each program location, as needed. * Supervises lunch, sitting with members at dining table to assure member's ability to dine safely and independently without risk for choking or aspiration. * Leads set up and/or clean up of area for scheduled activities. Keeps supplies organized and stocked. * Reports to Director of Life Enrichment all changes in member abilities or decline that may result in ineligibility or safety risk within program. * Maintains department facilities, storage space, and equipment in a condition to promote efficiency, health, comfort and safety of residents/patients and staff. * Demonstrates the ability to motivate program members to partake in activities of choosing. * Demonstrates the ability to adapt activities to meet the residents' needs. * Anticipates needs of the department and is self-directed with regards to fulfilling those needs.
