Job Description:

Provides creative arts therapy, psychotherapy and counseling. Provides an environment that fosters and enhances creativity, socialization, and promotes physical and mental health.

Responsibilities Include:
1.Develops and conducts individual and group creative arts therapy sessions to include long-term and short-term goals based on observation and referrals.
2.Designs and implements a variety of goal-oriented group sessions which utilize art and other creative modalities (e.g., music, drama, and dance) as effective therapeutic tools.

  • Assesses effectiveness of sessions and makes appropriate changes, as needed.
    3.Plans and implements a structured experience to enhance patient self-awareness and self-expression.
    4.Encourages independent creative expression through the use of creative arts, music or related media.
    5.Maintains current clinical documentation on all patients' sessions.
    6.Assists in operating, maintaining and purchasing equipment and other materials/resources necessary for creative art therapy sessions, i.e., presentation equipment, supplies, etc.
    7.Participates as a team member in providing continuing patients' assessment and treatment.
    8.Attends treatment team meetings and supervisory conferences
    9.Performs related duties, as required.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Creative Arts Therapy, required.

  • New York State Education Department licensed Creative Arts Therapist, required;

OR

NYSED Creative Arts Therapist valid permit and must become licensed and registered within one (1) year of hire.

  • Minimum one (1) year experience practicing creative arts therapy, required.

  • Department specific certification in one or more of the following, preferred;

  • Registered Art Therapist (ATR) or Board Certified Art Therapist (ATR-BC) credentialing through Art Therapy Credentials Board (ATCB),

  • Registered Drama Therapist (RDT) through the National Association for Drama Therapy (NADT),

  • Registered Dance/Movement Therapist (R-DMT) through the Dance/Movement Therapy Certification Board (DMTCB),

  • Registered Music Therapist (RMT), Certified Music Therapist (CMT), or Advanced Certified Music Therapist (ACMT) through the National Association for Music Therapy (NAMT).

  • Music Therapist - Board Certified (MT-BC) through the Certification Board of Music Therapists (CBMT).

Administers all ambulatory pulmonary diagnostic tests as prescribed by a physician for the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory disease/illness. Prepares, operates and maintains pulmonary equipment. In addition, the respiratory therapist completes all tasks that are necessary to enroll patients into the Pulmonary Rehabilitation program and is able to conduct a pulmonary rehab class. Responsibilities: Pulmonary Testing- * Explains purpose, procedure and equipment to patient and/or family * Perform all pulmonary testing (i.e: Pulmonary Function Tests, Cardiopulmonary Stress testing, Methacholine Challenges, Six Minute Walk Tests, Oxygen Titration Tests, Arterial Blood Gases, etc). * Identifies contraindications and patient responses to treatment. Records treatment and patient response in medical chart * Set-up, operate and monitor pulmonary equipment. Ensures proper functioning and appropriate utilization of testing equipment used by patients * Clean and disinfect all equipment as recommended by Manufacturer guidelines and follow Departmental Policy & Procedures for infection control * Provide education to patients * Perform calibrations for all Pulmonary and Stress testing equipment * Performs Quality Controls and maintenance for Arterial Blood Gas machine * Provide guidance and assistance to new RT employees * Act as a preceptor for RT students on clinical rotations * Perform routine preventative maintenance activities and/or minor equipment repairs * Assists in keeping track of monthly statistics * Ensures proper restocking of supplies * Capability to use the Electronic Medical Record for patient data and billing purposes * Perform inpatient bedside spirometry * Responds to emergency situations * Participate in Pulmonary Research Protocols for testing * Perform related duties, as required. Pulmonary Rehab- * Conduct the rehab intake process of new participants and coordinates the development of plan of care with other staff members * Supervises exercise sessions, monitoring patients for inappropriate response to exercise. Responsible for vitals (blood pressure, heart rate and oxygen saturations) on all patients pre, during and post exercise * Identifies contraindications and patient responses to treatment. Records treatment and patient response in medical chart * Monitors and administers a variety of oxygen and breathing devices to patient (i.e nasal canulas, oxygen venti-masks, etc.) * Perform data collection for exercise prescription and for quality improvement * Charts and documents assessment and daily participant information and progress * Complete discharge summaries, clinical outcome measurements, Individual Treatment Plans (ITP's), set patient goals in pulmonary rehab * Provide education to patients (instructs in breathing exercises, i.e., diaphragmatic and pursed lip breathing) * Clean and disinfect exercise equipment, per infection control policy * Perform routine preventative maintenance activities and/or minor equipment repairs * Provide guidance and assistance to new RT employees * Act as a preceptor for RT students on clinical rotation * Responds to emergency situations * Perform related duties, as required. Qualifications * High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
