The Crafts Manager directly supervises up to 34 FTE. Hire, supervise, train, and evaluate crafts personnel. Administer, supervise, and inspect all maintenance, preventative maintenance, projects and equipment repair work conducted by craft services. Work together with all Administrative Area Managers and other Facilities Managers to contribute to assurances of full occupancies by maintaining safe, clean, and presentable housing units. Manage multiple projects following Federal, State and Departmental safety guidelines. The position requires flexibility in traveling to and from the various complexes, to and from the various offices as well as to and from a variety of meetings held on the campus. Incumbent is responsible for providing support to properties managed by UCLA Housing & Hospitality Services. 1.Demonstrated skills in setting priorities that accurately reflects relative importance of pending facility maintenance repairs, preventive maintenance programs and special projects.

2.Demonstrated skills in coordinating and supervising maintenance staff including delegating responsibility, training and evaluating performance. Strong supervisory skills to perform the full scope of managing the shop to include: recruit, hire, train, monitor, evaluate and discipline employees.

3.Demonstrated skills in preparing planning documents and recommendations for annual major maintenance projects.

4.Demonstrated skills in preparing financial reports and annual cost projections. Skill in mathematical calculations sufficient to prepare budgets, estimates, reports and monitor project costs.

5.Skill in interpreting construction documents such as bid contracts, general conditions, agreements, specifications and architectural drawings.

6.Working knowledge of university forms, policies, procedures and ability to process forms required to accomplish various transactions.

7.Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively through written reports and oral presentations. Skill in writing concise, logical and grammatically correct correspondence and analytical reports.

8.Demonstrated working knowledge of and skill in carpentry, plumbing, painting, sheet metal and repairs. Knowledge of power distribution systems and procedures used in the areas of electrical, mechanical, architectural and civil engineering.

9.Demonstrated knowledge of fire, safety and building codes.

10. Demonstrated ability to conduct on-site visual inspections of projects involving walking, standing, climbing stairs and ladders, stooping, crouching, and balancing, including roof inspections and other precarious locations. Ability to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds.

11. Ability to drive a pick-up truck and/or van to travel to various on and off campus locations.

12. Working knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration general safety rules, equipment, and clothing and California Administrative Codes including Titles 19, 22, and 24 when overseeing construction projects

13. Working knowledge of computers utilizing MS Office, Access, Excel, Kronos, Maximo, database programs, Apple IOS and computerized project maintenance system.

14. Demonstrated ability to work under fluctuating workload conditions with frequent interruptions, distractions and emergencies. Able to exercise sound time management skills and control projects and work proactively to mitigate delays, legal confrontations, budget problems and any additional complications that may jeopardize project or Shop productivity.

15. Demonstrated knowledge of Facilities Management funding sources, including time constraints in allocating and spending state, bond and other special monies; mathematical and accounting skills sufficient to prepare a Facilities budget request and Facilities budget updates.

16. Demonstrated working knowledge of all phases of repair, construction and renovation work performed by skilled crafts and knowledge sufficient to identify and prepare multi-craft estimates.

17. Working knowledge of human resources management principles including ability to counsel, coach, train, evaluate and discipline as needed. Able to maintain equanimity in the face of resistance, indifference or hostility.

18. Demonstrated ability to read, write, and speak English.

19. Working knowledge of parts for services such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, sheet metal, HVAC, and other residential apartment equipment including but not limited to pool, landscaping, exercise equipment.

20. Ability to negotiate and balance tenant needs, expectations and desires with policy, procedures and budgetary requirements and maintain collegial relationships and provide optimal solutions for both the University and the tenant.

21. Demonstrated ability to follow through on assignments with minimal supervision.

22. Demonstrated ability to receive multiple instructions within a limited time and maintain a professional and polite demeanor at all times.

23. Demonstrated ability to lead staff and act as a role model for the group.

CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS Positions allocable to this class typically report to an assigned supervisor and/or mentor and receive both technical job training and guidance on workplace behavior, competencies, individual responsibilities, and development of occupational skill sets. Career Development Interns are assigned to assist experienced journey-level workers in crafts support on training assignments of typically 12 to 24 months which may vary in duration based on individual training requirements. During training, incumbents are expected to develop and demonstrate progressively increasing skills and independence of action as they gain experience and proficiency in their occupation. Career Development Intern assignments may be made on any shift in County departments having 24-hour responsibilities. Essential Job Functions In a training capacity and under supervision, participates in entry-level work in one of a variety of job assignments. These assignments may require incumbents to frequently lift objects over 25 pounds, often combined with bending, twisting, or working above ground on irregular surfaces. * Assists a journey-level or other skilled craft worker in a variety of maintenance, repair, or construction work by furnishing and using simple tools, material and supplies. * Assemble tools, supplies, materials, and equipment and assists in maintaining them in serviceable condition. * Cleans work area machines and operates simple machines and equipment. * Prepares simple reports or keeps maintenance records, and other routine non-complex duties in various craft trades and other occupations. * Drives automotive equipment to and from work sites, as needed.
