Job Summary

The CRA Loan Officer will collaborate with a sales manager and Sr Loan Officer to increase lending in low to moderate income (LMI) communities and from LMI borrowers. The CRA Loan Officer will proactively identify, develop and maintain a quality network of business relationships that serves as a source of referrals for new mortgage lending opportunities, particularly in low to moderate income communities. Interview new and existing customers to determine their loan needs and advise those customers of appropriate products, terms, and pricing while gathering any additional required data. Generate complete mortgage applications, ensure appropriate procedures and policies are followed, while meeting sales goals and objectives.

Pay Range: $38,700.00 - $54,900.00 - $71,100.00

Job Responsibilities:

  • Sales/Business Development: Originate mortgage loans that meet Flagstar bank credit and underwriting requirements. Perform all origination tasks in accordance with industry and regulatory guidelines and requirements. Achieve sales and referral goals by developing a one-of-a-kind customer experience. Market to and manage referral relationships. Referral relationships include realtors, builders, professional and personal contacts. Participate in in business related development opportunities community efforts to promote home ownership. Coordinate and conduct homebuyer workshops and attend events to cultivate LMI homebuyer referrals, including but not limited to; working with non-profit organizations, churches, and employers in areas where the bank has CRA lending gaps. Proactively seek ways to develop and expand customer relationships in order to achieve branch and personal goals.

  • Customer Relations/Customer Service: Provide status updates and assist processing with the collection of any trailing borrow documentation needed to complete loan processing and closing. Maintain a high level of customer service for both external and internal customers and operational partners.

  • Training & Professional Development: Will continue to stay up to date on Flagstar internal processes, procedures and external regulatory and compliance policies and standards linked to their job as a mortgage originator. Attend Flagstar required production meetings. Attend/complete all Flagstar and industry required training. Actively participate in opportunities to expand knowledge, influencing and interpersonal skills.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. Complete all required compliance training. Maintain knowledge of and adhere to Flagstar's internal compliance policies and procedures. Take responsibility to keep up to date with changing regulations and policies.

Job Requirements:

  • HS Diploma, GED or Foreign Equivalent

  • NMLS certification is required.

  • Upon successful hiring, must meet and comply with all requirements set forth in the SAFE Act, including but not limited to successful completion of the required background checks and obtaining a unique identified for the NMLS.

  • 5 years of mortgage experience required.

  • Knowledge of conventional and /or government guidelines.

  • Understands processing, underwriting and or closing procedures.

  • Ability to analyze and comprehend complex financial data and provide financial alternatives.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, across a variety of audiences.

  • Solid time management skills and the ability to organize, prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Professional and effective interpersonal skills.

  • Strong computer skills including MS applications and previous experience utilizing laptop technology for communication purposes including accessing credit and loan status information.

  • Proven customer service skills and the ability to resolve problems and prevent customer dissatisfaction.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality using tact and diplomacy.

  • Maintain professional dress attire and demeanor.

  • 50-70% travel
