Under general supervision of the Director and the direct supervision of a Mass General Brigham anesthesiologist, incumbent provides anesthesia services to patients at Martha's Vineyard Hospital. The nurse anesthetist reviews patient's medical history, assists in selection of type of anesthesia, administers anesthetic, monitors patient during procedure, and provides immediate post-anesthesia care. Incumbent is responsible for supplying documentation of continued registration as a CRNA (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist), current nursing license (RN) and advanced practice license as a nurse anesthetist (APRN/NA) issued by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists provide anesthesia care to patients of all ages in all settings, across the continuum of care.
Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists are licensed, registered, advanced practice nurses who have completed a post graduate certificate, bachelor's degree, master's degree, or doctorate in nursing/nurse anesthesia.
Nurse anesthetists must become certified by successfully completing a national qualifying examination in the specialty of anesthesia.
To maintain their license to practice anesthesia, CRNAs must be re-certified biannually by attending 40 hours of continuing education programs.
CRNA's must also maintain a nursing license issued by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
