COLORADO PARKS AND WILDLIFE

This work unit exists to manage Cherry Creek State Park, a water-based state park within the guidelines of Colorado State statutes, regulations, and Division of Parks & Wildlife policy and procedures for the use, benefit over 1,900,000 visitors which utilize the area annually. This unit provides a wide variety of recreational and educational opportunities to the public, while working to ensure that safety and high quality standards are met. It maintains and improves visitor facilities, park infrastructure and natural resources within the park. This unit is responsible for providing visitor services, maintenance functions, natural resource protection, natural resource education, administrative functions, law enforcement, inter-agency cooperation and assisting with statewide programs. The work unit administers State Park Programs within the district, and provides recreation and natural resource management expertise to Federal, State, County, Local and Private entities.

Description of Job

This position is section manager for the visitor center within the campground. The position oversees day to day operations of the office. This includes customer service, sales of CPW and retail products, supervision of temporary and volunteer employees. Management and use point of sales system and reservations for the campground. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

Customer Service

Works directly with park visitors to answer questions about the park and division. Sells all CPW products which include the following; park passes, hunting/ fishing licenses, boat, snowmobile, OHV registrations, campground related products and overall management of the campground office/ visitor center. Answers in person, phone and email queries for park and agency information. Management of the park's automated public information systems to include the phone answering system and emails. Supervises temporaries and volunteer staff in completion of visitor center and campground operations.

Accounting

Oversees the revenue program for all sales that come through the campground/ visitor center. They are responsible for of products, sales, reconciliation, revenue reporting and depositing of revenues. Reporting of inventorying, requesting and overall management of the retail program within the office. Makes purchases on behalf of this work location and properly reconciles purchases within US Bank and SARA websites.

Clerical/ Special Project Support

Responsible for oversight of visitor center operations. This position assesses administrative processes in how this office functions. Oversight of POS system and campsite management with reservation system. Ensuring that all operations are in compliance with CPW directives and policies. The position continues to seek out new efficiencies to improve customer service along with supporting the agency, park management and the rest of the team at this work location. Special projects are also assigned or self-initiated when they are at the positions level of authority.

Supervision

Assumes a leadership role in interviewing, hiring, training, supervising, developing work plans, scheduling, motivating, and conflict resolution for 4-5 temporary customer service employees and numerous long and short-term volunteers. May take (and/or recommend to direct supervisor) appropriate corrective / disciplinary action for temporary employees.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of experience in administration or customer service in an office environment in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position.

Substitutions

  • Appropriate education in accounting, business, wildlife management, biology,, agriculture, or related field of study will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current or former Colorado Parks & Wildlife work or volunteer experience is considered.

  • Current or former State experience relevant to this position.

  • Excellent customer service skills, problem-solving abilities, and critical thinking.

  • Demonstrates initiative and self-motivation.

  • Keen attention to detail.

  • Exceptional organizational, written communication, and public speaking skills.

  • Ability to work well independently as well as in/with a team.

  • Proficiency in the use of Google email, Google Docs, Zoom/Google Meet, and the Colorado Operations Resource Engine (CORE). Knowledgeable in Word, Excel, and Adobe programs.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Colorado residency is required at the time of application.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid state of Colorado driver's license if operating a State vehicle.

  • Potential for varied work and weekends
