CPS Accounting Technician II

The purpose of the position is to establish a child's direct deposit account for the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services Children's Income Account. Work involves performing detailed assignments in recording, classifying, examining and analyzing financial records, documents and reports.

The position interacts routinely with Texas Department of Family and Protective Services staff including, Child Protective Services administration Child Welfare boards, Foster Care families, and Foster Care billing staff. Essential Job Functions:

Establishes accounts for new clients in the financial institution and Child and Adult Protective System; and verifies social security income awarded. Knowledge Skills Abilities:

Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and procedures affecting the maintenance of accounting records and automated accounting systems.

Ability to analyze, consolidate and interpret accounting data.

Skill in the use of a personal computer and related office equipment.

Ability to review work for accuracy, to accurately perform detailed numerical work, to make arithmetical computations, to prepare financial and accounting records, and to communicate effectively. Registration or Licensure Requirements:

None required. Initial Selection Criteria:

Graduation from high school or equivalent.

Two years full-time accounting, auditing, bookkeeping, financial operations, banking, budget or Texas Department of Family and Protective Services experience.

Acceptable Substitutions:

Sixty semester hours from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the required experience. Additional Information:
