Service Description: CPO Building Blocks is an AmeriCorps program with the dual purpose of providing an educational benefit to low-income children and providing intensive professional development for low-income adults serving as AmeriCorps members.

The educational component is a home visiting program designed to build parents' capacity to help their children develop early literacy skills. AmeriCorps members model a technique called interactive shared book reading during monthly book sessions and deliver new, hardcover books to participating children. In the empowerment component, CPO recruits and trains residents of low-income neighborhoods, most of whom live in subsidized housing and are unemployed and/or lack post-secondary credentials, to deliver the literacy intervention.

During the 1-year service term, CPO provides members with individual coaching and group facilitation around work readiness, self-sufficiency and self-efficacy. Member Duties: AmeriCorps Members will conduct the following activities:

Outreach and engagement: Engage CPO residents about early childhood learning in multiple settings (community, homes/porches, events, phone). Home-based early reading: Conduct sessions with parents and their children at least two times a month using evidence-based curriculum.

Data collection and documentation: Document all contacts and programmatic activities and collect data from children and parents. Enter data into electronic system.

Resource linkage: Link CPO residents to other resources and programs in CPO and the community. Be an ambassador for CPO in the community.

VIEW JOBS 10/12/2019 12:00:00 AM 2020-01-10T00:00 POSITION PURPOSE Under immediate supervision, is responsible for performing a wide variety of general maintenance tasks associated with building trades, both inside and outside buildings. Proficient use of a wide variety of hand and power tools and equipment necessary for all work functions. Responsible for the prompt repair and ongoing maintenance of facilities. Identifies, monitors and troubleshoots problems. Keeps records of work performed and completes maintenance history logs. Assures operation of safe and functionally sound equipment. Understands and demonstrates a commitment to the Columbus Regional Airport Authority's Mission Statement, Business Plan, and Core Values in addition to all other Authority sponsored initiatives. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES Assumes responsibility for the efficient and effective performance of equipment and facility maintenance functions. * Reviews blueprint or rough sketches involving all aspect of the work. * Withdraws tools and supplies necessary to accomplish assignment. * Repairs or replaces doors, locks, screens, damaged downspouts, and clapboards and shingles. * Builds fences, cupboards, sheds, stairs, and partitions. * Applies wall materials and acoustic ceiling tile. * Assists in tearing down existing construction. * Performs minor electrical repair work in maintaining fans, light fixtures; replaces fuses and light bulbs. * Inspects and makes a variety of repairs to plumbing fixtures. * May erect concrete block wall, repair brickwork, lay sidewalk and patch-damaged cement. * May unload trucks delivering material and supplies and store in assigned locations. * Moves furniture and office equipment. * Operates, disassembles, repairs and assembles machinery. * Performs related skills in carpentry, welding, brazing, and sheet metal work. * Performs layout of ceiling grids and ultimate installation. * Performs layout of flooring and ultimate installation, including carpeting, tile or other such commonly used commercial products. * Uses catalogs to order replacement parts. * Follows blueprints and engineering specifications to maintain and repair equipment. * Detects and diagnoses minor problems, correcting before becoming major ones occur. Assumes responsibility for completion of related maintenance recordkeeping. * Keeps records of all work performed and updates maintenance history logs. * As directed, receives and completes work order request. Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective communication and coordination with staff and with management. * Keeps management informed of areas activities and of significant concerns. Reports major concerns or significant problems. Fosters employee relations as established by the Authority. * Adheres to and upholds all Authority Work Rules, policies, and procedures adopted by the Authority (e.g. - harassment, discrimination, hostile work environment, etc.). * Represents and conducts self in a professional manner. * Expected to exhibit appropriate and professional clothing and personal grooming habits as outlined by the Authority. Miscellaneous * Maintains and supports a high level of customer service to peers, partners, and passengers. * Adheres to safe operating procedures set forth by the Columbus Regional Airport Authority Environmental, Safety and Health Administrators, and OSHA. * Other duties as appropriate from other relative job descriptions. * Other assignments and/or duties as directed by a member of management. WORKING CONDITIONS Work in an indoor and outdoor environment; occasional travel from site to site; ability to work in adverse weather conditions. Must work under hazardous conditions including high places, chemical exposures, moving machinery, etc. The worker is subject to fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation etc. which affect the skin or respiratory system. Shift –8 hours; first and second shift. Breaks – 30-minute lunch, and two 15-minute breaks. Flooring – typically tile, carpeted or concrete surfaces. Lighting – variable, natural and artificial light. Temperature – variable environmental conditions based on specific job sites. May be exposed to seasonal weather and temperatures, dust etc. Safety equipment – gloves, safety work boots, safety goggles/glasses or other personal protective equipment depending on job assignment, etc. QUALIFICATIONS Education/Certification High school diploma or GED. Must possess and maintain a valid Ohio driver license, in good standing. If job assignment includes driving requirements. Required Knowledge Requires a variety of general building maintenance knowledge. Includes interior maintenance, as well as outside maintenance. Understanding of equipment operation and maintenance procedures. Experience One (1) year of construction and/or building trades experience. Additional experience may be substituted for education on a year by year basis. Skills/Abilities Basic computer skills. Ability to read and understand blueprints and technical reference manuals. Excellent mechanical aptitude. Ability to work well independently. Ability to cooperate and communicate well with others. Ability to supervise helper. Ability to use various hand tools. Well organized and attentive to detail. Required to have regular and predictable attendance.
