Cox Communications issearching for a Cox Business Operations Engineer I. This rolewill perform operations engineering activities with general networkingknowledge and skill in a 24/7 environment. The CB Operations Engineersupports fulfillment activities for growing and scaling the Nokia CB Metro Corenetwork as well as daily service assurance activities on both the Nokia CBnetwork and all legacy CB networks (Calix, Cisco ONS, Fujitsu Sonet,etc.). The service assurance role is at a Tier III level, receivingescalations from the Cox NOC and escalating to Sustaining Engineering only fordesign issues.
Primary Responsibilitiesand Essential Functions
Under general supervision,executes routine network implementations for new technology.
Provides reviews withoperational boundary partners and compiles information for detailed methodof procedures and when needed.
Creates network change ticketsin line with current processes and validates conflicts to ensure nounnecessary outages.
Partners with Operations and
Engineering to test and validate functionality, management and performancefor existing and new technologies.
Supports implementation of newservices, systems, applications and architectures with installation,configuration, integration, evaluation, testing, documentation, andtraining.
Works with vendors to ensureequipment is installed and operating properly and resolves problems.
Manages small, more routineprojects within Operations to confirm delivery intervals and validatecritical dates and milestones to ensure delivery of services stay ontarget.
Coordinates with otherdepartments to ensure the network is available and configured to exceedmarket demands.
Compiles information fornetwork infrastructure operational standards.
Participates in industry bodiesmonitoring technologies, proposals, and issues of technical interest andrelevance to network operations.
Provides basic engineering andoperational support to other groups such as Cox Business, Provisioning,and Network Engineering.
Assists with coaching andmentoring of junior technicians and Cox tiered support teams.
Prepares and delivers technicaldocumentation and presentations.
Ensures long term technologygoals are consistent operationally across all groups.
Partners with change managementfor impact identification, network validation, MOP creation and executionof activities.
Opens, tracks, executes, andresolves escalated trouble tickets at the Tier III level related tooutages and trouble conditions on network platforms. Provideson-site and/or remote technical support for all Cox transmission media
Partners with Vendors whenneeded to validate bugs etc. for break fix.
Operates to meet networkreliability and availability metrics set forth by Cox Standards.
Provides post-incidentinformation and details for documentation when needed.
Works with other businesspartners to manage local network tools to ensure network health and toolavailability.
1+ year of experience inrelated field (i.e. Engineering, Technical Operations) or academicequivalent training or projects.
Requires working knowledge oftransmission, switching, powering, grounding, mechanical, andcabling.
Demonstrated problem solvingand analytical thinking skills.
Ability to work in 24/7environment and on-call as required
BS/BA degree in relateddiscipline strongly preferred (i.e. Engineering, Computer Science, orsimilar technical degree).
Certifications: NRS I, CCENT,Network +
Experience intelecommunications industry desired - preferably 2-3 years operating in atiered level technical service assurance and/or service implementationenvironment
Demonstrated troubleshootingand diagnostic capabilities
Working knowledge of variousmanufacturers' telecommunications equipment.
Working knowledge of backboneand metro architectures and technologies.
Participation in SCTE andrelated certifications
