Austin Health Center, the City of Trenton Department of Health and Human Services, and more than 100 community organizations.

MAJOR FUNCTIONS:

The COVID Relief Program is centered around expanding vaccination rates within the Trenton community. Throughout the pandemic, Trenton Health Team coordinated key stakeholders and healthcare providers to ensure collaboration and data sharing aimed at educating the public and driving down COVID transmission rates. THT will continue to serve as an integrator for our region, with responsibility to collaborate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders - both individuals and organizations, ranging from neighborhood residents to social service providers to governmental agencies and leaders.

The COVID Relief Community Ambassador is a member of the COVID Relief Team funded by a short-term grant provided by the State of New Jersey. This effort requires collaboration between THT and various partners such as THT Community Advisory Board (CAB) participants, resident organizations, Henry J Austin Health Center, Capital Health, St. Francis Medical Center, faith-based organizations, local businesses, Trenton Public Schools, the City of Trenton, Mercer County, and the State of New Jersey.

This temporary initiative focuses on three main areas of activity:

  • Door-to-door outreach efforts
  • Media and direct mail campaigns
  • Event and vaccine clinic coordination, facilitation, and staffing (as needed)

Reporting to the COVID Outreach Leader, the COVID Relief Community Ambassador is primarily responsible for connecting members of the local community with the programs and services offered in support of the COVID Relief program. Other related duties and responsibilities may be assigned. The Community Ambassador role requires flexibility, as assigned duties will often require work outside of normal business hours, and assigned duties will vary from day to day.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Primarily (though not always) working in pairs, the Community Ambassadors will:

  • Generate awareness of and participation in COVID Relief programs through door-to-door outreach within the Trenton community and through staffing and supporting community events
  • Build trust through active listening to identify obstacles and increase program registrations
  • Report learnings and findings back to THT in clear and actionable ways
  • Support tracking of outcomes and outputs for reporting to funders and others
  • May purchase and track inventory of program materials
  • May participate in community listening sessions and assist with creation of informational materials

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Support other programs and activities as needed
  • Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Program Manager

Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • An Associates Degree AND at least 2 years of relevant educational and professional experience OR another combination of education and experience that demonstrates successful completion of tasks similar to those required for this position
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends
  • Community outreach experience
  • Commitment to serving low-income communities
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination
  • Valid drivers license and ability to drive organization vehicles to events and unload event materials

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Fluent in Spanish
  • Experience working in and trusted ties to Trenton communities

COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Moderate computer experience with proficiency in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office programs

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The specific demands for this position include, but are not limited to the following:

The COVID Relief Community Ambassador performs job duties in a normal business office environment in an urban community. Office tasks are generally carried out with no specific or unusual physical or environmental demands. While performing the office duties of this job, the COVID Relief Community Ambassador is regularly required to sit at a desk and work with a computer for extended periods of time. Specific physical abilities required by this job include operating basic office equipment such as personal computers, copy machines, and standard office telephones. The COVID Relief Community Ambassador also performs job duties in the Trenton community and at events held at various locations. Specific physical abilities required by this job include transporting and lifting event materials, and standing or walking for extended periods of time.

Approximately 75% percent of the time will be spent in the community and the COVID Relief Community Ambassador must be able to travel to and from various sites as needed.

While performing community tasks, the role may require:

  • occasional exposure to outside weather conditions
  • the ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds

Further, the COVID Relief Community Ambassador will be required to attend meetings that will occur in the evenings and/or on weekends both on-site and off-site, in-person or via phone or videoconference.

Benefits

This is a temporary hourly position compensated at a rate of $22.50 per hour.
