Benefits to You

  • We pay 95% to 99% of medical insurance premiums for full-time employees, including mental health coverage.

  • The hourly equivalent for this position is $25.17 - $39.05.

Position Highlights

The Crook County Circuit Court in Prineville, Oregon, is hiring a Courtroom Clerk to provide complex support to our judges and to manage the juvenile delinquency and juvenile dependency caseload.

In the courtroom, you will create a digital record of court proceedings, prepare and maintain written logs, set up video and phone conferences, help attorneys and litigants with procedures and scheduling, swear in witnesses, mark exhibits into evidence, and complete various forms. As the bailiff, you will maintain the security and professionalism of the courtroom. You will also prepare the courtroom and jury room, distribute documents, escort and administer the oath to potential jurors, and monitor the security of jurors during deliberations. You will interact with judges, management, court staff, attorneys, litigants, justice agencies, and the public. You will also process documents filed with the court, scan and verify hard copy records, perform quality assurance before destroying hard copy records, transport bank deposits, and process the mail as needed.

To manage the juvenile delinquency and juvenile dependency caseload, you will perform data entry, process documents, judgments, and orders, and check pleadings submitted to the court for accuracy and completeness. You will prepare and distribute a variety of notices to parties, including attorneys. You will also answer questions, in person and over the phone, from attorneys, parties, agencies, and the public about court policies and procedures for juvenile cases.

Part of your time will be spent providing coverage for the front office and the other two judicial support positions in the judicial district as needed.

Assigned tasks may be changed to accommodate workload and organizational needs.

Minimum Qualifications

The qualified candidate must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

AND

At least three (3) years of responsible experience in a moderately complex office or business setting involving the processing of financial, administrative, or legal documents.

OR

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to three (3) years of experience that typically supports the knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.

  • Experience performing a variety of clerical or administrative support tasks with strict deadlines in a busy business or professional setting.

  • Experience using a variety of software programs to access and input information and complete various tasks.

  • Experience explaining processes, procedures, or policies.

  • Skill in writing and in reviewing documents for accuracy and completeness.

Working Conditions

  • This is a full-time position, and the work schedule is 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. This position is eligible for overtime compensation for hours worked in excess of 40 per work week.

  • Occasional irregular hours or overtime work during evenings and weekends may be required.

  • Occasional travel between the Crook County Circuit Court in Prineville and the Jefferson County Circuit Court in Madras; this may require travel during inclement weather.

  • Frequent phone and in-person contact with people from diverse backgrounds.

  • Frequent phone and in-person contact with people who may be facing challenging life circumstances, highly stressful situations, or trauma. Potential exposure to hostile people or violent situations.

  • This position may be exposed to disturbing or hazardous court exhibits.

  • Long periods of sitting or standing.

  • Regular use of the following equipment: electronic recording equipment, telephone, OJD-assigned computer with multiple monitors, copy machine, fax machine, and scanner.
