Court Security Officer

The City of Overland Park has a full-time Court Security Officer position available in the Municipal Court Department.

Responsibilities:

Provides security and protection to employees and citizens in the courtrooms, lobby, public hallways and all office areas of the Municipal Court. Ensures proper decorum, conduct and behavior that is compliant with the Overland Park Municipal Code. Operates the Weapon Screening equipment. Manages prisoner video arraignment and transportation of prisoners as required. Arrests and detains persons as ordered by the judge; coordinates confinement with Johnson County Adult Detention Facilities. Serves as courtroom bailiff as necessary. Completes and distributes all required paperwork and forms.

Requirements:

• Must obtain certification as a Law Enforcement Officer issued through the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Commission prior to receiving permanent employment status as outlined in the City employee handbook.

• Certified Law Enforcement Officer issued through the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Commission, preferred.

• Must have successfully completed basic law enforcement training within the past five years.

• Possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license and maintain an insurable driving record.

• Must be a US citizen and at least 21 years of age.

• No felony or serious misdemeanor convictions.

• Must successfully pass a polygraph exam and police background check prior to employment.

• Associates Degree or 60+ credit hours toward degree program strongly preferred.

• Must complete Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training within 12 months of employment and maintain current certification throughout employment.

• Minimum of six months experience, as a certified law enforcement officer. One year experience, preferred.

No City residency requirement.

Must successfully pass a background check, drug screen, physical exam and essential functions test.

Normal Work Hours: 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., Mon.-Fri.

Salary Range, Grade E: $27.16 - $36.22
