GENERAL SUMMARY
Attend all sessions of court, take full verbatim shorthand notes, preserve the notes for future reference, and furnish a transcript when requested.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents of this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
Attends all sessions of court; and utilizes personal stenograph writer to record court proceedings.
Prepares transcripts as requested; files Reporter's Records on cases that appeal; and preserves shorthand notes, text files and certified transcripts.
Performs clerical duties for the court office, which includes ordering supplies, processing bills, coordinating maintenance and repairs; preparing correspondence, filing and organizing paperwork, prioritizing requests for transcripts, calendaring deadlines, researching court case files and preparing minutes for the Juvenile Board.
Performs other related duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
SALARY
UP TO $115,436.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Must hold current certification issued by the Supreme Court of the State of Texas as a Certified Shorthanded Reporter, and be in good standing with the Judicial Branch Certification Commission.
Associate's degree, with 3 to 5 years related experience is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES
Ability to comply with Chapter 52 of the Government Code, Court Reporter Code of Professional Conduct and Uniform Format Manual for Court Reporters
Knowledge of court proceedings
Knowledge of legal, medical and technical terminology
Proofreading skills
Ability to use computer systems and related software
Work independently
Read, analyze, and interpret standards, policies, procedures, and regulations
Exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job
Operate standard office equipment, such as computer keyboards and monitors, copiers, scanners, and telephone
Use (or learn to use) computer software and systems applicable to the position
Follow oral and written instructions and procedures
Meet schedules and deadlines of the work unit
Maintain well-organized materials, files, systems and tools
Adapt to changes in work situations and priorities
Maintain impartiality and confidentiality; refrain from commenting or discussing court cases

Be able to independently travel to other Counties as needed.
