The Utqiagvik Trial Court of the Alaska Court System is accepting applications for a Court Case Manager 2 (salary range 12). Under general direction, this position performs a variety of clerical and technical functions in support of court operations.

Case Management
Receive and review filings for civil and small claims cases; enter appropriate docket screen in case management system for each document and route accordingly; assist the public in filing FED actions and petitions for protective orders;
Issue summons, orders, and judgments; calendar hearings and distribute notices to parties; review requests for default and enter in accordance with court rules;
Open and maintain Superior Court criminal cases; accept filings, enter into motion tracking system, and route motions to judicial officer in a timely manner;
Review and issue writs of execution and garnishment for the purpose of collection; maintain spreadsheets for all executed judgments;
Receipt funds for garnishments, executions, fees, fines, restitution, and bail; enter disbursement information; enter arrest bonds into case management system;
Close case files when appropriate and make necessary computer entry; other duties as assigned.
In-Court Duties
Serve as primary in-court clerk for Civil, Small Claims, and Superior Court Criminal hearings: set up, organize, and maintain the courtroom including operation and testing of a variety of equipment;
Prepare and organize case files and paperwork for court proceedings;
Announce the opening and closing of court proceedings and administer oaths;
Receive and manage exhibits admitted into evidence; mark and log exhibits;
Call roll of prospective jurors, track jury attendance, and perform bailiff duties as needed;
Record and prepare an accurate summary of the court proceedings;
Result hearings, calendar future events, review and distribute orders to parties.
Customer Service
Answer inquiries and requests from the public, attorneys, and agencies;
Maintain supply of court forms for court staff and customers;
Duplicate hearing audio on request; perform records searches using CourtView and Trakman;
Provide back-up coverage and support for other positions in the office.
The Work Hours
Full-time court employees are currently scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week. The work hours for this position are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break.

This position is assigned to the court's classified service; incumbents will attain "regular" status after completion of the initial probationary period.
The Work Environment
The Utqiagvik Courthouse is located on Agvik Street, just blocks from the Arctic coast. The office consists of four Court Case Managers 2 under the supervision of the Clerk of Court 3. The courthouse also has one Superior Court Judge, one Magistrate Judge, a Chambers Judicial Assistant, and a Law Clerk.
Utqiagvik is one of the northernmost cities and towns in the world and the northernmost in the United States. From May until August, the sun does not set and from November to the end of January, the sun never rises above the horizon. You may even see a polar bear in town!

Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND one year of advanced clerical work experience equivalent to a Court Case Manager 1 with the Alaska Court System or an equivalent position with another employer AND the ability to keyboard at least 40 words per minute (net).

Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND completion of a two-year paralegal curriculum from an accredited institution AND the ability to keyboard at least 40 words per minute (net).
