Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships This position requires interaction with other drivers, medical staff, ancillary areas and patients directly in order to facilitate a quality multi-disciplinary approach to patient care.
The Courier Coordinator will develop relationships will all clinics UMC services and provide a feedback mechanism that will encourage feedback. Job Description The Courier Coordinator transports equipment, medication, specimens, mail, x-rays, hazardous material and records from one location to another within the hospital, PNS and other facilities. The Courier Coordinator responds to requests within his routine route and other requests that may occur from time to time by the Director/Assistant Director or Staff Coordinator of Nursing Support Services.
The Courier services UMC, PNS and surrounding area clinics. The Courier Coordinator will be responsible for all requests and delegate responsibilities as needed to other UMC Couriers. The Courier Coordinator will assist with route changes as well as provide feedback for annual evaluations of all UMC couriers.
Required Licensures / Certifications / Registrations Valid Texas Drivers License and ability to be insured by University Medical Center Auto Insurance Physical Capabilities The Courier Coordinator must be emotionally and physically fit. Work requires much driving, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting and transporting of specimens, medications, supplies, records, paperwork, and equipment. The atmosphere may at times become stressful and physically/emotionally demanding.
Since assignments are based on actual transportation needs of various areas and departments, the courier is required to work throughout the hospital and surrounding areas. The work is of high risk for exposure to Biological and Chemical hazards. Skills and Abilities The Courier Coordinator should possess good written and verbal communication skills; should be knowledgeable of the physical layout of the UMC/TTHSC Complex; PNS clinics and follow established procedures and practices related to the position.
The Courier Coordinator#s day will consist of heavy driving and he/she should be familiar with the route the courier must drive each day. It is also important for the Courier Coordinator to be familiar with the surrounding area should the route need to be redirected due to construction of roads or other needs that may be added to the route.
