We currently have an immediate need for Social Service Aide 3 positions in the Children, Youth, and Families agency. Located in Northeastern Pennsylvania, Luzerne County Government provides a dynamic and rewarding environment for personal and professional growth, allowing you to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Luzerne County families.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As a County Social Services Aide 3, you will work closely with and take direction from the unit supervisor surrounding work assignments to assist families in attaining goals in their Family Service Plan (FSP). You will collaborate with the supervisor and caseworker at least once a month to discuss safety issues and FSP compliance for the families you are assisting.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as you will need to discuss sensitive topics with clients and provide information and instruction regarding parenting skills and techniques. Some of the families you will work with experience difficulties in supervision and discipline of children. This position entails monitoring and supervising visitation between parents and children at the office, at the parent's home, or wherever the caseworker has arranged for visits to take place. You must possess a working knowledge of physical, cultural, developmental, and social factors in relation to child abuse and neglect. It is vital that you are able to identify safety issues and assist caseworkers within the unit to provide appropriate community resource referrals.
Additional duties of this position include completing various agency and Department of Public Welfare (DPW) forms, birth certificate and social security applications, and transportation forms. You will be responsible for documenting all contacts with clients, maintaining case notes, and making entries into the LCC&YS computer system.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment
Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
Vacancies may be filled in the Wilkes-Barre or Hazleton offices.
Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
One year as a County Social Services Aide 2; or
Graduation from high school, or its equivalency, and three years of experience in public contact work in a human services agency which included one year of experience in interviewing and obtaining information; or
An associate's degree in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences, and one year of experience in a human services agency; or
Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
