Responsibilities

  • Carrying out office activities and functions pertaining to one or more of the program areas administered in the county.

  • Interpreting and explaining procedures, program regulations and forms to producers and other agency personnel.

  • Utilizing various web-based software applications to maintain producer data and processing automated forms.

  • Using a high degree of initiative and judgment in planning and carrying out assigned tasks and resolving problems encountered.

Qualifications

Qualifications are in accordance with requirements in Handbook 27-PM.

Specialized experience is defined as experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and is typically in or related to the work of the position being filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least 1 year in the next lower grade level.

Applicants must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements by the closing date in the announcement, including the following specialized experience and/or education, as identified below:

You may start at the CO-04 level if you have one of the following qualifications:

  • Successful completion of two years of education above high school in an accredited business, secretarial or technical, junior college, college or university in any field in which high school graduation or the equivalent is a prerequisite may be substituted for experience. OR
  • One year general experience of progressively responsible clerical, office work, or equal background in the operations of a farm or ranch that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform the duties of this position.

You may start at the CO-05 level if you have one of the following qualifications:

  • Successful completion of four years of education above high school in an accredited business, secretarial or technical, junior college, college or university in any field in which high school graduation or the equivalent is a prerequisite may be substituted for specialized experience. OR
  • One year specialized experience applying office methods and procedures to provide clerical and limited technical support to any farm or agricultural program.

You may start at the CO-06 level if you have one of the following qualifications:

  • One year specialized experience applying office methods and procedures to provide clerical and limited technical support to process and service farm or agricultural programs.

You may start at the CO-07 level if you have one of the following qualifications:

  • One year specialized experience applying office methods and procedures to provide clerical and limited technical support to independently perform a full range of farm program processes. Experience that shows your ability to perform progressively more complex, responsible, or difficult duties: and that shows your ability to learn the specific work of this position.

Education

College Transcript: If you are qualifying based on education, submit a copy of your college transcript that lists college courses detailing each course by the number and department (i.e., bio 101, math 210, etc.), course title, number of credit hours and grade earned. You must submit with your application package evidence that any education completed in a foreign institution was appropriately accredited by an accredited body recognized by the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education as equivalent to U.S. Education standards. VIEW JOBS 6/3/2020 12:00:00 AM 2020-09-01T00:00 JOB SUMMARY: Requires knowledge of Boys & Girls Club programs and must have flexible hours to be able to work on weekends and afternoons as assigned. The Program Specialist will utilize leadership, advocacy, and collaboration to promote club member success, provide preventive services, and respond to identified members needs by implementing a comprehensive Healthy Lifestyles program for members and their families and monitoring the food service operations including Child and Adult Care Food Program/Summer Food Service Program. Other responsibilities include maintaining safety of members, public and staff, maintaining a high profile in the community, and soliciting sponsors for programs. EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS: Computer and general office equipment. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Individual works indoors in a well-lighted, air-conditioned building as well as outdoors to implement and oversee programs. The job has minimum hazards associated with lifting equipment. Moderated hazards associated in transporting and supervising at risk youth and the physical demands are moderate. Perform physical and manual work such as lifting, bending, stooping, and walking on uneven surfaces, on a daily basis. Requires lifting items 20-50 pounds in weight periodically (trash cans, tables, recreation equipment, misc. equip). Must assist in lifting 100-1,000 lbs. occasionally (bleachers, gamesroom equipment, tables, p.a. system, volleyball poles, etc.). May be required to assist in waxing and buffing floors and will work with power tools and manual tools such as (ex. drill, saws, weed eaters, sewing machines, lawn mowers, buffers, cleaning equipment, etc.) daily. EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED: * Check on CACFP/SFSP site operations to ensure that site personnel maintain records. * Ensure the program operates in accordance with all TDA and USDA requirements. * Visit all sites within the first week of food service operations. * Review food service operations of all sites within the first four weeks operation. * Prepare reports of visits and reviews * Report unresolved or critical issues to the director. * Revisit sites as necessary. * Suggest corrective actions for problems encountered. * Ensure that sites take corrective actions. * Conduct on-site training as necessary. * Visit sites on a regular basis and observe meal service operation. * Market, promote and maintain a high profile in the community through publicity and quality programming. * Solicit sponsors for programs and special events. * Maintain safety for public and staff. Maintain CPR/First Aide Certification. * Plan and coordinate activities with supervisor and co-workers. * Work with schools to promote programs. * Plan & implement programs and activities consistent with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Edinburg RGV mission, core beliefs and vision statement. * Must attend staff meetings, in-services, training workshops * Cooperate and coordinate activities with other staff. * Implement programs as assigned. * Assist in report preparation. * Administrative duties: cash reports, monthly reports, outcome measures, rosters, attendance reports, lesson plans, pre and post testing, program evaluation, etc. * Prepare and submit activity plans to supervisor as required. * Must complete Leadership University Youth Development Level. * Plan and coordinate program enhancement events to include public & parent participation. * Develop and maintain a written plan for effective delivery of assigned program based on grant requirements and organization focus. * Train club staff on program implementation in assigned specialized program. * Must assist staff in and perform other duties as assigned. EDUCATION/SKILLS REQUIRED: A high school graduation or equivalent is required. Some college preferred or background in food service operations. Must have own transportation and requires a Valid Texas Driver's License (Class C) with satisfactory driving record. Requires one (1) year of experience in youth development. Requires working knowledge of program development, operation and procedures. Requires working telephone. Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Other specialized job requirements include being able to understand and follow directions; both written and oral, must be in good physical condition, sensitive to the youth/teens and have good public relations ability, knowledge of athletic rules/regulations, and bookkeeping and management skills.
