We are excited for you to apply to our Compliance Specialist - Country Living position at our East Lansing, MI location. This position is responsible for ensuring loan-level legal and regulatory compliance. Work cross functionally within the Legal Department and across departments to review and promote consistent applications of laws, regulations, policy, procedures, and job aides.

Day in the life of a Compliance Specialist:

  • Provide analysis on initial entry of loan origination data, early disclosures, loan application, credit approvals, purchase agreement, title work, applicable legal documents in the chain of title and appraisals for real estate transactions.

  • Upon completed review, clear up exceptions, document clear actions that need to be taken prior to close and post close to ensure a valid first lien on the collateral and in compliance with both applicable state and federal regulations.

  • Provide compliance review of title commitment and collateral analysis.

  • Follow up communication with title company representatives, working with Sales, Operations, Credit and Appraisal teammates as needed.

  • Audit loan origination system to ensure compliance, accuracy and integrity of loan data for real estate transactions. Analyze loan documentation for accuracy, quality assurance, regulatory compliance applicability.

  • Draft supporting legal documents in accordance with local statutory and federal regulatory requirements, association and department policies, procedures, and direction.

  • Upon loan processor completing the loan documentation package for closing; provide comprehensive analysis of package and data within loan origination system for accuracy and integrity of data.

What experience can you bring?

  • Associate degree required.

  • 3+ years working with CFPB regulations as they apply to real estate transactions experience required.

  • Must be proficient in computer technology and Microsoft applications.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills to successfully communicate both verbally and written.

  • Ability to quickly learn and effectively use new process and procedures to meet business initiatives.

  • Ability to work effectively on teams by building strong relationships, listening to others, valuing opinions, and helping team to meet goals.

What will set you apart?

  • Bachelor's degree preferred. Pre-law/paralegal studies major preferred.

  • 3+ years' experience working in a real estate law office, Title Insurance Underwriting, and/or working in a legal department for a residential real estate lender experience preferred.

  • Solid understanding of real estate and land title law.

  • Strong analytical skills, methodical, complex problem solving.
