The University of New Mexico Counseling, Assistance and Referral Services (CARS) is seeking a full-time Senior Counselor/Social Worker who is licensed in New Mexico as an LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) or LPCC (Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor). CARS is the University of New Mexico's Employee Assistance Program and provides services to the faculty, staff and retirees of the University of New Mexico Main Campus, Branch Campuses and UNM Health Sciences. CARS provides in-person services as well as telehealth services. CARS offers generous benefits including a stipend for continuing education seminars/conferences and educational leave, in addition to the robust benefits package offered by the University. A relocation allowance may be available and will be determined at the time of hire.
Under the supervision of the Director, the Senior Counselor/Social Worker will provide the following:
Brief solution focused counseling to individuals and couples
Referrals for additional support services both within the University and outside the University system
Consultation to staff and faculty supervisors and managers related to improvement of employee performance issues and strategies to improve communication and morale and minimize workplace stress
Psycho-educational seminars/webinars on a variety of topics to increase awareness of mental health issues and wellness topics
Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD) services and crisis intervention

Conditions of Employment
Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check when working in a child classroom setting.
CPR and Basic First Aid Certificate may be a requirement for some positions in this classification.
Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
If located at the UNM Children's Campus, successful candidate must pass a comprehensive post-offer, pre-employment criminal and New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department (CYFD) fingerprint background check, and a continued successful status will be verified by periodic future background checks.
Must be employment eligible as verified by the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG) and the Government Services Administration (GSA).
May be subject to credentialing process; must maintain credentialed status, if applicable.
Must maintain certification status.
Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, or an equivalent field; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Certification/Licensure: Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) or equivalent OR Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or equivalent OR licensure pending, as documented by temporary license.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
5 or more years of experience post Master's degree in a clinical setting
Experience working within an Employee Assistance Program
Experience providing assessment and brief solution focused counseling to individuals and couples
Experience developing and presenting psycho-educational seminars/webinars
Experience providing consultation to supervisors, managers and leadership
Experience providing Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD) and crisis intervention
CEAP Certification (Certified Employee Assistance Professional)
Experience working in a university or college setting
Experience preparing and maintaining confidential client records
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
Proficient computer skills to include familiarity using the following applications: Outlook 365, Microsoft Office, Zoom, Teams, Windows 10 operating system and EAP Pro 360
