The Center for Development and Disability (CDD), established in 1990, is New Mexico's University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research and Service. These centers, authorized by the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act, build the capacities of states and communities to respond to the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.

The Senior Counselor/Social Worker, will directly support the Director of the UNM CDD's Early Childhood Clinical Services Unit by taking on a leadership role in providing clinical care and in coordinating the triage and referral process for both the CDD's statewide Early Childhood Evaluation Program (ECEP) and our Early Childhood Mental Health Services (ECMHS).

The position will coordinate the administrative and training/consultation aspects of the CDD's ECMHS. They will also provide coordination of ECEP and ECHFS referrals, intakes, triage, case assignment and/or scheduling of families.

This position will also provide direct clinical care from patients birth to age five and their families, including evidence-based assessment and treatment.

The ideal candidate will have training and experience in early childhood developmental assessment, and evidence-based treatment practices in early childhood mental health, including Child Parent Psychotherapy. They will also possess familiarity with NM Early Childhood systems, including the NM Family Infant Toddler system, and will demonstrate excellent organizational, collaboration, and communication skills.

This is a key leadership position that requires:

  • Excellent clinical skills in early childhood.

  • The ability to work productively with diverse teams.

  • Some local travel for community visits to clients.

This position may provide clinical supervision, guidance, training and leadership to interns/trainees as assigned.

Conditions of Employment

  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check when working in a child classroom setting.

  • CPR and Basic First Aid Certificate may be a requirement for some positions in this classification.

  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.

  • If located at the UNM Children's Campus, successful candidate must pass a comprehensive post-offer, pre-employment criminal and New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department (CYFD) fingerprint background check, and a continued successful status will be verified by periodic future background checks.

  • Must be employment eligible as verified by the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG) and the Government Services Administration (GSA).

  • May be subject to credentialing process; must maintain credentialed status, if applicable.

  • Must maintain certification status.

  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, or an equivalent field; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Certification/Licensure: Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) or equivalent OR Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or equivalent OR licensure pending, as documented by temporary license.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience providing clinical intervention and/or assessment with children from birth to five and their families.

  • Experience directly supporting families with children from birth to five seeking assessment and/or treatment services as part of larger team.

  • Rostering as a provider of Child Parent Psychotherapy.

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.

  • Endorsement at Level 3 or higher as an Infant Mental Health Specialist by the New Mexico Association for Infant Mental Health.

Additional Requirements Must pass a background check with fingerprinting. This position requires travel for home visits within the community using personal transportation (mileage reimbursed).
