Job Description and Duties

Positions are 10 month permanent intermittent (on call) positions and may work up to 15 hours per week.

Under the direction of the Supervising Counselor, School for the Deaf,Plans and conducts recreational, academic support, and social activities to meet identified individual student and programmatic needs. Incumbents supervise students in the cottage, and/or designated area on the campus and any school-sponsored activities on or off the campus; plans and implements recreational, academic support, and social activities to meet the identified individual and group needs of the students in an assigned cottage or area; assists in planning and implementing individual and group behavior management programs, maintains accurate records of student behavior; participates in parent conferences and various meetings (i.e., cottage, departmental, division, school-wide); maintains and produces factual records pertaining to students (i.e., permission, incident, and injury reports); completes all required paperwork such as cottage report cards, transportation lists, and log books.

Transportations: Functions as a bus or van escort,van driver, and provide supervision at bus arrival/departure areas, bus depots, airport terminals for CSDR's trasporation system and designated Day Student bus areas.

These positions provide coverage on buses and vans for student home going and return days.

They may also be used to assist in cottages when there are staff absences and or big events that require additional help in supervision and cottage coverage.

Working Conditions

Subject to fingerprinting and criminal record clearance by the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation and Tuberculosis clearance. This position is designated as safety sensitive and is subject to reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing.

Special Requirements

  • The position(s) require(s) fluency in the American Sign Language language. If the State of California does not have a current record documenting your fluency in this language, you will be required to successfully pass an approved language fluency test prior to being hired.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

Willingness and ability to supervise students in cottages and on buses/vans for home going. Ability to drive a state van/vehicle to provide transportation on home going days and or special events.

Possession of a valid California Drivers License and the ability to pass the State of California Defensive Driver Training. Ability to get along well with others and have a positive relationship with students and staff.
