JOB DESCRIPTION

The Counseling & Wellness Center's Counselor position reports to the Director of the Counseling & Wellness Center and will provide services to encourage, support and assist Paine College students in dealing with concerns that may impact their academic performance. This will include, but is not limited to: individual counseling, mediation, providing sexual assault, dating violence, stalking, and mental health related workshops/programming, etc.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To provide counseling for students experiencing mental health concerns, relational issues, academic challenges, and/or behavioral problems.
  • Develop and provide workshops and/or training sessions for students, faculty, and staff, on various topics including sexual assault, dating violence, stalking, mental health, and wellness.
  • Serve as liaison between the college's students and employees and external community partners on Sexual Assault, Dating Violence, and Stalking matters, including best practices regarding response to incidents of gender-based violence.
  • Provide students with referrals to other professionals and/or appropriate resources in the community.
  • Work with the Director in maintaining student files as necessary.
  • Evenings and weekends may be required.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

  • Master's Degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, or Social Work. Experience working with addiction/substance abuse populations is a plus.
  • Licensed or license-eligible is preferred.
  • Two or more years of experience working in a college or university counseling center is preferred.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills are required. Candidates must be able to effectively communicate with both students and colleagues as well as interact with internal and external constituents.
  • Strong computer skills desired.
