Position Overview: The Counselor provides support to enhance the quality of patient care by working directly with the patients in a treatment setting and collaboratively as a member of the program's multi-disciplinary team in accordance with the RCA Care Model. He/she is responsible for collaborating with the CSS Clinical Team with the direct clinical patient care by providing support and guidance to patients to promote engagement and continuity of care. Working in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team, she/he will help provide a safe and therapeutic treatment experience for the patients served.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Provides direct support to patients by providing 1-to-1 support sessions and/or facilitating groups as scheduled/assigned.

  • Engages patients by conducting recovery-oriented activities as scheduled.

  • Supports the community to intervene with treatment engagement works to de-escalate treatment barriers.

  • Carry out RCA Care Model with fidelity.

  • Facilitates patient engagement and re-engagement sessions as needed.

  • Supports the clinical/case management teams as directed by the Clinical Supervisor by providing direct support to patients to help encourage, engage plan, and complete continuity of care plans while collaborating with the patient's treatment team.

  • Appropriately documents all patient interactions into the record of continuity of care.

  • Engages patients by conducting recovery-oriented activities as scheduled/assigned.

  • Assists in providing support in family engagement with patients, including but not limited to supporting or facilitating family orientation and/or seminars, supporting ort supervising patient family visits, and contacting families with consent during treatment to help support and engage patients.

  • All other duties as assigned.

A Counselor may be assigned specific responsibilities to an appointed specialty by their supervisor, as qualified.

Specialty Assignments:

  • Provides direct supports to 1st responder and frontline program as assigned.

  • Provides direct support in recovery education including 12 step philosophy and step work both 1 to 1 and as a group as assigned.

  • Provides direct support of the facilitation, coordination, and engagement of wellness and/or fitness both 1 to 1 and as a group as assigned.

  • Provides direct support of the facilitation, coordination, and engagement of art and/or music therapy both 1 to 1 and as a group as assigned.

  • Provides direct support of the facilitation, coordination, and engagement of spiritual support both 1 to 1 and as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Associate degree in related field preferred;

  • High School diploma/GED required.

  • One year experience in the field of substance use treatment or closely related field.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.

Education and Experience for Specialty Assignments:

  • Master's degree from a related field and/or LMHC/LCSW/LADC I or related proffered;

  • Bachelor's degree from a related field and/or LADC II or related preferred;

  • A recognized certification/licensure or field experience providing spiritual advisement preferred;

  • A recognized certification/licensure or field experience as 1st responder preferred;

  • A recognized certification/licensure or field experience providing Big Book based 12-step guidance preferred;

  • A recognized certification/licensure or field experience in nutrition/wellness preferred.

Work Environment: May work in a variety of environments including professional offices, clinics, hospitals, or out-patient facilities. They spend much of their time on their feet, actively working with patients.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Travel: Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.
